If you lost your vest?

Ever give any thought to what it would cost to replace all the "STUFF" in and on your fly fishing vest including the cost of the vest. It's almost nightmarish to think about it. How about a couple estimates. No need to itemize unless you have a real compulsion and time to do so. About 20 years ago someone went into my garage and took a vest, several poles, large tacle box and various other stuff. I had to write an itemized list to turn into my home insurance carrier and was surprised(especially my wife)at how much money I had tied up in that stuff.

What surprises me is that I know exactly what lures I have in what boxes and how many. I was always worried about someone stealing my stuff, don't have the money to buy it back

I haven't used a vest in years, but if someone should abscond with ONE of the dropshot bags in my boat, I'd be out over $300.

    Wally,
Since I usually have about 7 different fly boxes in it plus the usual floats tippett, spare leaders, multi-tool, forceps, nippers, split shot, spare reel cassette, banjo strings, and my lucky yellow rope , , , I'd say a lot, maybe 400-600 dollars.

I've actually lost a vest...well it was stolen. At one point I got rid of a tackle box and had everything I owned fishing wise (minus minnow bucket and rods) in a vest. I figured it would be easier to walk through the woods to the places that I fished from shore.

I was up Pymatuning going into Poffs to go get bait to fish the causeway. I left the vest in the front set of the car and went in to get bait. The window was up but door was unlocked. I came back and got to the causeway. When I went to grab my vest I realized it wasn't there. I combed through craigslist and other places seeing if it would ever turn up, of course it didn't.

I had to replace everything and it sucked horribly.

Funny you posted this Wally. The other day I thought I lost my trout/steelhead vest and it turns out I just didn't unpack it from my Presque Isle trip. All I was thinking was how bad it was going to suck to have to go out and replace everything. My flyvest would put a hurting on my wallet if I lost it.It's become a monster and I'm going to have to try to trim it down. It feels like it weighs 80 pounds.

I'd say the stuff in my trunk is running 4 digits, maybe as pricy as the stuff in Kim Kardashians trunk if ya know what I mean!

A vest with a bunch of flies don't compare to a 5 tray bag full of heddon top water and rapala lures.. Mine was stolen a few years ago I am still replacing them.... Definitely well over 5 big ones and still don't have all I did have

    I don't know about that..
I have some fly boxes that hold 500 flies and are full.
At a buc a fly they add up.

Don't wear the vest anymore but carry a bag with all my fly boxes in and just pull out the one or two I need for the day.
That tackle bag has over 20 fly boxes in it and most are full.

For hard tackle with over 150 Rapalas alone I shudder at the cost to replace it all. Main bag was inventoried 15 years ago and was at over $2500, it has more than doubled since then.

Last April my son had his car broken into. He was all packed for a hunting and fishing weekend minus his guns. The total amount was over $2500 with $654 for the vest and its contents alone. We were able to be so exact since he was home the week prior and we replenished all his boxes with new flies and made sure he had all the essentials necessary for the trip. An interesting side point is that several months later they caught the person who did it with the vest and the rest of the items in his possesion.

The fly vest for me maybe $200. My walleye and all around box $1200+ my bass box, or should I say duffle bag, well over $3000 worth or sheet in there not to mention the rods!

The worst day hunting or fishing will always be better then the best day at school or work!

Odd that we got on the whole discussion. My green van was once broken in to and all they took were a bunch of CD's, a pair of binos' and some prescription drugs for acid reflux . At the time there were about 20 bamboo rods in the back and my fishing gear. It occurred when I went down to central PA right after an Oil City outing. Probably some pillbillies who didn't know value.
