Smithton Sportsman

They moved stocking back by a couple weeks due to trending bad weather at March beginning.  Haven't heard if West Newton will continue to stock.  Thoughts are no.   Remember to buy a pin ($10) if you do fish over there.  Don't be a rummy and shirk the contribution.  It's what gets the fish in there for your enjoyment.

What trending bad weather...the forecasts have no dramatic weather in the forcastable future? A bit of rain tomorrow and then chances of showers...nothing big....it is far more likely to get into severe weather the further into March we go....

They also sell buttons down at the river when they are stocking of walking around.

Last couple years the river has been blown out early.

    What trending bad weather...

If you go to their website, and click on Stocking, you can see the Dates and Quantity of fish they've put in for, I want to say, the past 10 years.  Taking notice, you'll see most of the first couple of stockings through those years have been cancelled due to high water/weather etc.... thus, they moved forward by 2 weeks with the schedule.

Yeah Puffy, West Newton Sportsmen are stocking the Yough. They also are talking about stocking lower Sewickley Creek. Here is a link to their Facebook page, where club and stocking info is posted. http://www.facebook.com/pages/West-Newton-Sportsmans-Stock-the-Yough/140646016004384?ref=ts

I wouldn't be THAT hard on yourself.   My guess is that "normally", there is snow, especially in the mountains, and March brings on warmer temps. and rain.  Combine the two and early March is a good bet for the rivers to be up.  The trend seems to point to that.
