northmoreland lake

Due to the budget cuts of Westm'd Cnty, the concession stand & boat rental will not be open at Northmoreland lake in 2012. They already moved the paddle boats to Twin Lakes & are expanding the boat dock there. Also this may be the last year for fishing derbies at Mammoth & Northmoreland if we can't get some volunteers to step up & help run them. It is possible that only Twin Lakes derby will be held with the help of the TLFA at Twin. The loss of the boathouse will not stop the fishing at North.. sam

That's a shame. I only started fishing Northmoreland just last year but I can say it has some the most aggressive hitting bluegill I've ever came across.

I'm a fan of dropping my plug at one end of the lake, opening the bell and paddling to the other side, and then a LONG, slow retrieve.....works every time.

I see that it was just stocked a few weeks ago and is part of the Early season program. I didn't know much so clicked to read and it says season is from March 1st through March 31st. So those fish that were stocked at the beginning of the month can't be caught, or is that just referring to the majority of other places who don't get stocked until March?

Kind of confused, but I'd like to get out there this weekend if I can catch them.

    TT,

You can fish for trout there now. All approved trout waters are currently open, until March 1st. Early season trout waters are open additionally from March 1-31. I see how that could be a little confusing if you've never taken advantage of the program before. But you're good to fish there now. I'm not positive, but I believe the current limit, and from March 1-31, is 3 per day. Check the regs to be sure if you plan on keeping any.

Thanks rsquared....I'd be releasing anything I catch so I'm not worried so much about the limit. Appreciate the heads up and I think I'll be heading out there Saturday morning before I head to the Sportsman's show.

Any chance they may sell a limited number of unpowered watercraft permits? I live close and would gladly pay 10-20$/year to putz around in the kayak out there once in a while. The gas savings alone would make it worth while.

Would you be willing to paddle my line to one end of the lake while you're out there? haha.

That wouldn't be a problem. I could probably tow it twice before running out of gas. I think it's less than a 1/2 mile long.

Last year someone on here mentioned kayaking their bait out into postition (catfishin) and I started trying it on the rivers last year. Same thing I guess, just a bit farther.

Saw Jeremy Wade do it on River Monsters when he was fishing for Bull Sharks in fresh water. Turned out he only caught a huge grouper.
