Match this reel

any recommendations on a rod to match a Shimano Chronarch 100D5 baitcaster? Reel has a 5.0:1 retrieve ratio. Great deep crankin reel but what rods would everyone pair up with it? Want to go with a medium power(already have 2 med-heavy rods), but do I want a stiffer tipped fast/xtra-fast action or a more flexible moderate action with deep running crankbaits/carolina rigs?

I would want a softer rod for cranks. But a faster one for carolinas. Which do you plan on doing more of? Casting only? Or trolling too?

I like the longer 7-1/2 to 8-1/2 foot fast action medium light rods. This helps in my casting yet has enough give as to not rip the hook out of softer mouth species like walleye. I prefer Fenwicks. These rods can also be used for trolling if needed. It takes a while to get used to using a longer rod but you quickly realize the advantages. It also helps to tire the fish out faster if you hook into a monster.....just don't have your drag cranked dowm too hard.

it will be strictly casting.  looking around and comparing the various charts and rod trials out there, leaning to a 7ft 2in medium Powell Endurance composite/glass crank rod with a moderate-fast action. Already have a 7ft 4in Powell in med-heavy with an xtrafast tip and a med-heavy eyecon with moderate action that can handle up to 3 oz lures, so I think this crankin rod will fit in nicely for lower end lure weights. This is it though. way too many rod types out there with specific applications. Remember years ago when 1 rod was all you needed? It's/I'm getting ridiculous now. It's almost like I have a different rod for each catchable fish species in PA.

I know what you mean. It's too hard to dial it in to a few rods sometimes. Don't feel bad. When I started fishing it was fiberglass, then graphite, then boron, then composite....ad nauseum.

Hey everybody that's posted in this forum and that sees this particular comment could you please do me a really quick favor? It will only take a second and I wouldn't bother except for the fact that you are already on a computer. If you could, open up another tab real quick and go to youtube and lookup "holden coffman blue tip test". The profile name of the uploader of the video is "hcoffman100" and I would really appreciate it if you would just take the short 18 seconds to view it and maybe tell your friends? I would really like to get some views and make this video popular. Also, if you're into martial arts or just enjoy watching it you will enjoy this video. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the plug Adam!.  I prefer a MH/F for throwing carolina rigs.  You already have a MH/XF that would fit the bill for them. And since you already have a MH/M (which I'd throw with deep cranks), I'd suggest a M/M for the smaller, hard bodies, treble hooked offerings..
