A buddy of mine caught a 34" walleye from shore just last year at the boat launch.

Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

There's one in southside under the birmingham bridge.

i also used to launch from the Braddock side and fish the wall on the Kennywood side. Caught smallies, whites, musky, you never knew what you were gonna hook into. It's so close to home, just too bad i don't feel safe nor safe taking my son down there.

Hi everyone,

Quick question. How did they manage to build the new dam upstream from the old one? They floated the sections in from downstream and then basically sunk them in place by flooding them. Did they take the sections through the locks? That would've been something to see!!!

If the icon comes up, sorry about that. My daughter wanted me to put it there.

They did take them through the locks. I'm sure they did it very carefully!

This same thing can be said of many urban fishing holes. For those in the metro area, you pretty much know what neighborhoods trouble is more likely than others. I've had a few encounters in many places around, some middle class safe areas too. The rivers in general in the metro area, are unpredictable. One of the main reasons that my river ratting days are over with.

Wow ain't that something pork you we're a river rat from what I remember of your posts. Only takes a couple bad encounters. I've had a few. Used to only carry a gun when with the wife on statewide all hours excursions. I almost never carry anymore except the rivers around the city..I had one stuck in my face once and I sure am glad I had one to stick back (mine's bigger). There is some real shady dirtbag characters around some shoreline river spots...most cool...some not.

I've been a recovering rattic for over 5 years now!  I've had a few relapses over that time, but as soon as I moved out of the city and the Mon wasn't walking distance, I've left it behind!  Moving my boat a few years prior was the real start of it though.  It's still only 10-15 min drive to a few spots, but just not worth it.  I'd rather take an hour drive to avoid it all.  PFBC stopping the wiper stocking has also made my decision a little easier.  I still rat a little on the Yough, but not too often.  I'd still hit some of the areas if closer, but I can be at Arthur in about 15 minutes longer drive than Lock 3, so no brainer to me.

That's pretty good news.  When they stopped stocking in 2009, I thought it was done.  I've read that they only live 5-6 years, so that class is about at it's end.  Probably be another year before the 2014 fish have any size to them though.  Would be nice if they keep the stocking up.
