12/10 report

Hit the river today w/Styveson brown for his first float rod steelhead trip. Drove through ice and snow but we made it and glad we did. The fishing was slow for us in the am only one hook up with a big fish, over 12# that just came unhooked, that was about around 8am. We made a couple of moves. Around 11am the river turned on for us. Sty is a float fisherman now. We went 4/9  with his first 10lb male landed.

Maybe I just fished the right places when I was up there. I didn't see a steel on my line, in the water or drug out on a rope that was less than 8 lb..
Maybe slayer is right when he says fly guys catch bigger fish than bobber & PW.
Slayer....You catching any nice ones? What's your take? You see it first hand almost daily.

Thanks for the input MS.. Maybe we could hook up for a day if there's less than 12' of snow up there come then.
I mean if nothing else you'd have someone close by to get some banner shots. lol

Shoot me a PM and tell me what brand and sizes.
I can arrange a shipment. This will be my 5 day weekend so I've got plenty of time to go grab some.

Whatever D-bag this isn't about styles or anything else but an observation, maybe some big ones in with the salmon early but not too many big ones landed. Look at the guides sights and their pools 17lbs is in the lead on most sites. Cookie Cutters

Right- every one who goes there uses a guide or logs on to salmoncrazy. Wrong answer.
Just because some dufis's on another site aren't landing any big fish doesn't mean they can't/aren't be caught.
I gave my personal take. I saw nothing under 28" & 8-9 pounds in the river or on a rope.
Slayer says they're bigger as well.
If you're catching cookie cutters you're doing somthing wrong.

What is it I'm doing wrong? I'm getting a bunch of 6-9 pounders with a few 3s and 1 that might have pushed 13 mixed in. Then again I was bobber fishing last time out.

Those "cookie cutters" were prob the skippers-4-5lbers the last couple of years.I see 20lb thrown around on the net w/ pics of fish that aren't even close. This yr I think it's a real possibility(again).

Obviously you aren't doing anything wrong. That is exactly the mix I took note of on my last trip up and what I was saying. Thanks for the confirmation.
Bigger than the last few years in general. Not near as many skippers. More fish in the 26-32 inch range. That's a good thing. Right?

It's hard for some guys to get an accurate scale reading while balancing on their peg legs.. A couple of drywall screws
    might help....:)

3 days- 2 days longer than it takes to see what's there this year. I would go more often, but I have a family to spend time with. There are more important things than fishing. I'll be heading up in Feb.. Thanks ahead for sore mouthing the little ones. They are of no intrest to me.

12.4 was the biggest. Last year same weekend I landed a couple over 15 and had some real hogs on. Seems some big guys came in early with the salmon but in all not nearly as many as years before. Most of the fish were 6lbers- Last year seem most were in 10's.
