river changes all the time. im many cases, what's there one year is not there the next. if you're fishing from shore in the back channel you're right on the water/whitewater. you're fishing an area approx. 1/3 the size of the river in the back channel and the fish are stacked and contained more than other areas. on shore the back channel is better but there are very good places that hold fish on both sides of dashields. I don't fish from shore bit if I were looking for the easier place to catch more fish it would be the back channel. less water holding more fish is always easier. just sayin'

does anyone know if they are still working on the dam? went down this summer and there were barges and cranes doing a bunch of work, probably gonna have it all fenced off like the other side.

I would assume that most or all of the other dams offer good fishing also, like maxwell, lock four and the elizabeth dams. There is twenty miles of river between elizabeth and lock four and twenty miles between lock four and maxwell, that should be enough water to hold a few fish that might congregate near the dams in the spring.

Any comments?

There is a public launch in Kilbuck/Glenfield. There is also a launch at the end of Walnut Street in Sewickley. Both will get you to the back channel of Neville Island without locking through. If you use the launch in Leetsdale, you will have to lock through the dam. Last I heard the Leetsdale launch has a fee.

I believe there is a boat launch on the back channel called Groveton, heading towards Coriopolis sp. from 79 make a right at the old ballfield. It should show up on Google Earth. John
