Boat trailer brakes

I understand that boat trailers need to be inspected to use Erie launches. My cousin has a dual axle trailer I believe its a 1996 with an 18 ft Ranger on it. It has surge brakes. Is that all that he needs to get inspected? Thanks for ur help!

    Any trailer in pa. with brakes or dual axle need inspected thats all you need to get inspected single axle trailers with no brakes require no inspection in pa.

    also if u dont live in pa. it would take whatever your state requires they are all different

    Brakes need to be on both axles to be inspected, most surge brakes are only on one axle.

    Trailers over 3000# need to have brakes and be inspected, all axles need to have brakes.

    My trailer has surge brakes and has them on both axles. Electric brakes are generally not recommended for boat trailers.

    If you need to add brakes to your second axle or if you need to redo your brakes try this site http://www.trailerpartsdepot.com prices and customer service are great...

    "I understand that boat trailers need to be inspected to use Erie launches." - Not to use the launches, but rather road legal to get there. I guess the PaFBC could enforce vehicle code if they really wanted to!

    As for getting it inspected, like Bulldog said - if it is registered over 3000 pounds.
     
    It will also need lights, safety chains and good tires. If it does have brakes, it will also need a functioning "break-away" for the brakes...and any place that I've had trailers inspected, they always checked it to see it actually work!
