High Point Lake
Has anyone heard anything?A buddy of mine went up for a drive and said the lake was totally frozen and there were multiple sled tracks. There was no one on the lake at the time. Anyone got an idea of how thick it is? Ed

there was a report on the ice shanty site...............he said he was able to see some tracks, and where he measured it was 3 inches, but he did not fish.

I drove up this morning and walked out about 10 feet and drilled a hole and the ice was 6 1/2 inches. Walked another 10 feet and drilled again and it was about 6 inches. Very light layer of snow on the whole lake. Edge cracked a little as I walked out but everything else is froze. Not sure how safe the middle is so be careful if you go. Please post if your out.

Does anybody from the Pittsburgh/Monroville area want to go fish Highpoint lake with me tomorrow? I want to fish, but don't want to be out on ice this fresh by myself. I have a truck and am willing to drive. PM me if you are interested.

It was 4" . It was shaky getting on apparantly yesterday there was a foot of water and you couldnt even get on the ice. Some spots were 5" other spots were 3" Only another group of guys on the lake that was it. Be very careful if you venture out. Ed

Has anyone heard anymore about the ice conditions? My bf went out today and I'm starting to worry. He asked me to get minutes for his phone so he could call but he's not answering maybe their are no cell towers up there.

There is NO service up there you have nothing to worry about. My dad is up there right now haven't heard anything about ice conditions yet. I know that yesterday there was some rain and the ice was already shaky but last night it could of froze back up. I would imagine 4" pretty solid in middle watch the edges. Ed

I've tried to use a cell phone up there 3 different times and it never has worked. As soon as I start down the other side of the mountain towards Meyersdale it will work.
Ask your boyfriend to post on the ice conditions in the middle of the lake if he went out there. I'll be fishing alone during the week and am wary of the ice since I went thru up there a long time ago.

Ok thank you guys! Now I don't have to worry so much I'm sure he'll be fine. I'll get you a detailed report when he gets back. Also sometimes people stop at Nicklows bait shop and mention ice conditions, their number is 814-395-3931. My bf is St Crox boy, I'll make sure he posts when he gets back.

He's still up there, he said it varies about 4-6 in the middle, 3 around the banks. Sorry to hear about that, that would be awful!

As my GF said there is about 4-6 inches in the middle it drops to about 3 around the banks but its pretty solid as for the fish, i wish they were more cooperative did get two small pike and some bluegill nothing with any size. Now I just hope the warm temps and the rain don't destroy the ice entirely.
