ORIGINAL: Clint S For future reference you can sometimes coax them back into working by banging on the tank. That brings back sweet memories of youthful mountain rides when my buddy Jay's car wouldn't start and I, as co-pilot, was responsible for crawling under the car and whacking the starter with a rock...

The real question here is how many more times can running on empty fit "as well" into a sentence, post or this thread?

Tuna, I hear ya on the empty tank syndrome... my tank is 17 gallons and im lucky if I get 13 per gallon. It is the original fuel pump and I do have 130 k on this truck. I often do more than 1 tank a day. Metal, there's no way in he'll im gonna pay 175 to get towed 1 mile when the truck still starts... I appreciate your assumption of me being some high roller or something, but, you should meet me before " assuming " my stature and financials...."as well" ... ;) Funny stuff guys; clint thanks again for your advice and help while I was stuck up there....

Dime,I'm not a expert on trucks but there has to be something out there that gets better than 13 mpg, maybe it's time for a new truck for a bunch of reasons.

Jack I stand corrected ; its actually 15.29 on the highway....still not much though. Something about those light weight 4*4's with 6 cylinders....they are guzzlers to say the least. Trevor its 1000; not 1000's Drake, you are right with the added weight, heavy tools in my matchbox of a truck ;)

I am going to pop a couple of Mother's Little Helpers (that I got from my Mother ) tonight in order to BOMB myself into a deep sleep. Too many beans counted over the last few days - I'm cross-eyed & stir crazy tired all wrapped up in one. Manana I am taking a day off and will actually don a set of waders and dust off the fly rod to hit the Lehigh. They bumped flow yesterday due to raiin, snowmelt, so the finned critters should be adequately acclimated tomorrow to properly receive my expertly-cast offerings... o.kee - how boutz this: The SUK is running on empty in regards to amuzement level. I took a peek the other day and is a shadow of it;s former self. No Walri, No Cat-Fights, No Poetic Insanity, Nada, Zip, Zilch. The boobs have sagged and the pie is stale. There is a glimmer of darkness - (The Crazy Tatted Aussie tries his best - but lacks competent parders in crime.. The SUK needs a SLAMMO attack pronto to shake the cobwebs off. You can do it, I'ze knowze youze gotz another Banner BomB Bonanza in you... GIT R DONE.... later d00d

The Tundra V-8 4.7 gets 17 >20 mpg with cap on.. I think it's a tad under powered for towing but ok for payloads.. I drove it 1 year only on open water fishing trips (no work or side trips) while I commuted & ice fished from a 26 mpg subbie waggon.. The subbie is now beat to death.. My conclusion.. I need a heavy duty work truck > 3/4 ton AND a cheap gas sipper.. Now if I can only convince the wife that "smell like fish oh baby" in her Rav-4 is Really OK.. lol..
"whats that smell like fish oh baby" .. J. Kaukonen

My sipper is a Chevy S10 3-door 4banger, 2.1 flex-fuel engine, with custom cap. 2WD, no frills, just AC,Cruise, & Tunes, manual windows & doors - o.k. with me. Bought it (no make that STOLE IT) with 8,000 miles on it. gets 28mpg, sometimes 30mpg whilst cruising the interstates. No power to tow or haul much of anything, but I bought it for the gas-sippage feature. Bullet-proof little buggy.

Hear where you're coming from drake, but IMHO I would never buy a truck like that without four wheel drive... the four by four is what really kills the mileage but I look at it as a necessity...

My other vehicle is a 4X4 - hunting/tackle box on wheels... I put studded snows on the little buggy and a couple sacks of sand over the rear wheels for winter driving. Only downside is that the little engine does not have enough power for a proper burnout required to toss sparks onto the hood of the vehicle behind me....

13 does sound a little low unless you are really loaded down. We get 14 to 16 with our 6.0 liter 2500hd. I drive an 3.0 V6 Mitsu Outlander adequate power to tow a small boat and with the seats up lots of room for gear. 20 to 26 city to highway. My beater is a hand me down Eclipse from my wife, but is gets 28 to 30 and has been paid for for a few years, keeps the miles off the Outie.
