Favorite flow

It looks like they're dropping to 500 for the weekend. I like fishing the river best between 500 and 750. Still some cover over their heads and they have some good seams to occupy, but I can wade, cross the river in spots, and get away from the trees. I can also occasionally chase fish when I have to. That's just me . I'd like to hear what flow  other people like to fish in, no matter what or how you're fishing.

    i like to fish 750 to 1000 it gives the fish a sense of security and they hold in spots that are not in the tour guides. it also keeps the crowds down and the people that are there are the ones you can share water with.

    Fichy, I would agree with you, some of the best fishing I have had on the Salmon River has been in the 350 to 500 range. Mostly in November timeframe, maybe we caught Fish holding in deeper holes due to river CFS flow reduction? Have done really well on the Sandy's in lower water. The fish are they and they have to eat!

    Caught early rins of Salmon in the DSR where we were 2 of 10 fisherman on the run at a 175 level. It was like fishing in a petting zoo! I guessit is just being in the right plac a the right time!

    500-1200 is preferable for me... gonna have to agree with chosen frozen regarding 750+.... it does tend to weed out the crowds... there also are more than a few spots that I fish in 1800 +....

    Id have to say 750-1000 would be my favorite...

    I remember when water flow was always referred to as "gates".... I believe 1 gate was equivalent to 750 cfs... in those days; my favorite river level was always 1 gate plus run off or 1.5 gates.... it was this flow that usually was the cut off for me crossing in various spots down in the dsr... perfect level for fishing right from the bank in many spots...

    This is a pretty big range but I like 350 to 1200 , I have 3 types of water I like in different areas and different techniques. 350 to 500 , 500 to 900 and finally 900 to 1200.. and I really like them all , I guess my
    favorite would to get all 3 on the same trip ,, rising though.... not falling.

    hey folks I missed this one..

    most of my favorite flows change throught the seasons but I guess the over all favorite would be 3/4 to 1 gate with a little runoff..lol

    Fall for kings I like 750 best.. It keeps the fish moving, people spread out and still reasonable to fight them..
    As it gets closer to late fall a nice burst of 1,000 then 750>500 is awesome.. Brings lots of trout in as it did this fall.

    Winter I like to see a min 500.. I hate slow moving short narrow water.. It just makes me bored fast..

    Spring of course it's mostly 1,000 plus runoff.. throwing big streamers on heavy tippet and having a steel slam them is a blast in higher water.. no more nymphing, c&d or noodle rod. A perfect lead in to spring trout I'm outta there by third week in April..

    EEEEEEEyeahhhhhhh, Nancy has off today and we were working around the house, but I asked her if she wanted to go at 3am for a day trip. Nothing coffee won't cure.  Yep. Day trip it is.    Thanks for the push , Steve.  Are you up  this weekend? Gladly hit the Ace(or wherever)  with you, if you are.  Especially if you got the coffee on.

    Hey Tuna-
       Past few years have had Steel on beds in some places up river till as late as the third week of May- weather permitting. VERY spotty -yes- but they are still around if the water isnt too warm and slow. If I can findem here and there - same spots from year to year- there are certainly more I havent found.
      Think that the Steel fishery is doin great when ya consider some come back in the following October or even late Sept. Just a 4 month disappearing act.
      Can recall way back when they were nuts and then a number of real real lousy years- nice to see the very spread out run we now enjoy- never mind the cookie complaints- they have come back very well.
