The Alabama Rig

As featured in the trib last week...this is new to me. Wtf??? Would this even be legal? Like an umbrella rig for casting. As much overkill or ethical debate as it will create I think id like to try it just to see it work. But I can't
Imagine losing the whole rig with lures. Also they recommend 80-100 lb braid and a stump puller rod. My God is bass fishing getting out of control.

That is like some trolling rigs for salmon and saltwater species. Only it's smaller and "castable".

I don't think it would be legal, unless trimmed to 3, or hookless on a few.

RODS, LINES, AND HOOKS – An angler may use a maximum of three lines fished either by rod or hand when fishing for gamefish, baitfish or both. It is unlawful for a person to fish with more than three fishing rods at a time. No more than three hooks shall be attached to a line used in fishing (one hook having two or three points is considered a “single hook”). All rods, lines and hooks shall be under the immediate control of the person using them.

Just noticed that the 3 rod rule has passed. I was thinking to try and make it back out to the rivers again too...

Yep just a small umbrella rig, but many states have regs that state only 1 hook may be on the trailing lure. Hmmm, troll five spoons for steelhead to get a triple hookup? In all seriousness this would kill smallmouth, as there's always a trailer fish or two looking to steal the caught fish's bait or lure. Many doubles would be on the retrieval of 1 fish.

Not interested, you can get way more fish with dynamite...

Seems like it should be illegal for tournament fishing...

Don't think it will(or should) be permitted in PA waters unless only three hooks.

EVERYWHERE, when you cut it in half to make 2 rigs out of it to follow the 3 hook rule!

One Sabiki rig will outfit two rods for perching.

    Yes, we are still here!

I will definitely am using these for fall muskie fishing and spring pike. Ebay has a 3 strand umbrella for 7.99, run 2 swimbaits and trail with a spinner. Possibly troll for walleye?

This months bass master mag features this rig, they use it down south. Did see a guy from ny with a cluster of smallmouth attached to this thing. Sometime people get caught up in the hype , nothing more than a gadget that would be pretty useless most of the time.

Now there's a get rich quick idea. Commander spends all his money on the Alabama Rig, and we buy shares in Mann's stock exchange and make money from Commander, just saying.

I think I recall seeing instructions on making something pretty close to this in the janns net craft tackle tool spinner making kit. I may whip a few up for crappies or smallies.
