new years resolution
Hey guys- after a decent season I have decided to always take an empty garbage bag in with me and bring it out full. Simple stuff. -have always put some trash in my jacket or fishing vest but now am gonna up the ante. Wish they had a dollar deposit on all styrofoam and paper cups up there as well as soda and beer cans and those plastic egg containers too.- That would stop it in a heartbeat. Still need more garbage cans in the lots too.

Retired, respect your efforts as I also pick up other peoples trash up there. The real shame is the more you pick up after the scumbags the more they expect it. Its kinda like the nys welfare system, the more you give them the more they want. It really is sad that grown men, mostly, cant carry the stuff they bring in back out, its freakin lighter on the way out, and thanks to all who also practice this its a shame we have to do it, but I thank you if you do. Tight lines now and in the year to come!

3 fan, I'll respectuflly disagree just a little. For the most part , I agree, but I have noticed a little bit less since the Lotac clean-up compared to last year at this time. Some of the spots, like the Ace and the Barrel , I've found maybe a 1/2 bag in or less . I think it's improving. People like Trev and yourself are making a difference. I've seen tons of data for many years concerning litter. It's been shown statistically that areas that are clean tend not to generate as much trash as those that are already littered. I don't think it'll ever completely go away as there's always gonna be scumbag, snagging a-holes , but we can hope we stay on a positive trend. Anything good is worth cleaning up and fighting for. Thank you both, and good post . Charlie

As retired L/E one can grow weary of the often simplistic resolutions folks give on how to care for some of these conditions however it aint rocket science to watch anyone carrying in a coffee cup in the morning and watch them toss it on the way to the river. PINCH. Then have a litterbug of the week PHOTO on each shop front door- Just like the 'john of the week' they do in Cities to try and stop the hooker trade. You will never stop either completely but Geeeze slow it down.

Its definitely a losing battle but every effort helps... I've almost gone as far as putting a trash can or 2 chained to a tree back on my frontage but decided not to... because then it would be expected; and im sure it would overflow at times.... and eventhough the dec has the rights to govern the river bank; im sure they wouldn't change the bag when necessary; so I just take stuff out when I see it back there...it is a shame. Maybe I should put up signs saying "this land isNOT POSTED BUT LITTER BUGS WILL BE SHOT ON SIGHT" :)

Even the local tribs are hog pens. The A holes go as far as to hang their coffee cup in a tree. The next week I go back there are about 10 cups in that tree like they were decorating a Christmas tree. I think everyone that is ticketed on the river for any offense especially littering should be sentenced by the judge to pick up xxx number of bags of trash. We own alot of farm land and I went to the extreme of placing game camera and going through trash to find the owners and then gathering it up and placing it on their front yards. We had one offender that was dumping motor oil and filters. I crossed the filters and found the only house on the road the cars in the driveway that matched the filters. I then bottled up 2 gallons of usedoil and the filters and placed it in the center of the driveway with a large sign saying " I think you lost these". Our littering has gone down quite a bit since I returned trash to 4 to 5 different houses

That's pretty funny clint. There's so many clowns that fish behind my place; don't think I could keep up with that..lol... Side note; I just got a pm from a board member telling me they would help me change the bags if I put some trash cans out; that's mighty generous... Hey merry christmas everyone

Been thinking about it even more now; even if I had a large team of contributors to help change bags I still think it would be a negative aspect of positive thinking... people should pick up after themselves...bottom line... maybe signs asking to please pick up trash and at the most maybe a bundle of trash bags hung under the signs... Slobs should be ticketed...bottom line..

Hey- Probably NOT the right spot for this but am VERY HAPPY to see the mild weather to date up in Pulaski and surrounding areas. Hopefully it has given the Deer and Turkey an extra chance to prep for the true Winter. They really need it up there if my place is any example over the past coupla years. Didnt even pickup tags to hunt there this year due to VERY diminished populations around my place.

Yes the poachers are taking more and more around here too. The CO lives only a few houses up and they do not care. I still find carcasses around here all the time. The problem is NOT people taking them for food, I have no issues with that at all, if your family is hungry you do what you got to do. People who are hungry take the whole deer and use it. It is ****holes shooting them and just cutting out the straps and leaving the rest to rot. I found 4 such carcasses this year. The CO caught 2 poachers last year hunting the neighboring farm. They took out 8 deer that he knows of, probably more. He came up this fall and told me to keep my eye out for them this year. Issue is that after he wrote the tickets the town court lost the paperwork and had to dismiss the charges. Guess what, they were back this year same place, same guys less than a mile from the CO's house. Opening day 2 guys 3 deer, none tagged, all does, no doe tags. He waited until they left and ticketed them for illegal transport too and a few other obscure things too. He personally saw the case through this year

Clint I've seen and known a-holes that have shot em to just tie em up for coy dog bate... no meat taken for food at all... On my property I see the trails/prints and droppings... but I never actually see them... Rt: you should get a jersey license and tags for southern tier NY...there's so many down here you can practically put on some football pads and tackle them...lol

I rarely buy into that carp bout havin to shoot a lot of Deer for winter food. Wadda they eat the other 3 seasons. All too often the same people sayin that stuff drive a newer truck and have all the other nice motorized toys too- and always a case- --no bucks for food though- gotta poach- bovine field splatter. Never did Jersey Dime but the Catskills for a long time.

About 30 years ago, when I was on the Conservation Council down here in WNY, we had a meeting to try to determine a solution to an overpopulation of deer in a park adjacent to a suburban area. Bow hunting was proposed, but the archers did not want to be on the news with Bambi bleeding out on some 10 year old girl's front steps, and there was a general ban on gun hunting in the parks. One woman got up and suggested that there was great habitat up around Pulaski and up into the Tug Hill, but low deer populations, and they could trap the deer and transfer them up there. The Region 8 Wildlife manager at the time got up and asked her if she thought they should release the deer live so the locals could harvest them immediately, or just do the butchering first and save everyone the bother of shooting up the area. Oswego County has been full of poachers for years, and Lewis and Jefferson have their share as well. And if you can afford the firearm to shoot the animal, you can find a way to eat without breaking the laws and stealing everyone else's chance at some game. Of course, the 18 feet of snow every winter helps to thin the herd as well. L13
