Not sure how to interpret that or even if it is new or existing.

ORIGINAL: dpms ORIGINAL: wayne c I guess the devil is in the details... I am paraphrasing here as I don't have it in front of me, but this was one snippit from the new policy manual. "Commissioners are reminded thet they represent the widlife resources and citizens of this state and are not affiliated with any one constituancy." Again, not the exact wording but close. Maybe the Audubon is slipping a commiss or two a favor.

Not sure how to interpret that or even if it is new or existing. Think gameland use and project priority for starters. Then think justification for game fund use. It's not all about deer.

BOARD APPROVES POLICY MANUAL HARRISBURG – On Tuesday, Dec. 20, the Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners approved a policy manual for the Board. The vote was six in favor, one opposed and one abstention. Those voting in favor were: Board President Ronald Weaner, Board Vice-President Ralph Martone, Board Secretary David Putnam, Commissioner Tom Boop, Commissioner Jay Delaney and Commissioner Robert Schlemmer. Commissioner Greg Isabella voted no, and Commissioner David Schreffler abstained. “These policies will be directed toward maintaining a balance between the critical factors that influence the health and natural function of the Commonwealth’s various wildlife habitats and hunting and wildlife related outdoor opportunities,†according to the policy manual. To view the complete document, visit the Game Commission’s website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), put your cursor over “About Us†in the menu bar at the top of the page, put your cursor over “Commissioner’s Page†in the drop-down menu listing, and then click on “Board Policy Manual.â€

I just had time for a "quick read through".. I did see this === E. Board members are reminded that they represent and work on behalf of the wildlife resources and citizens of the Commonwealth and do not represent any constituency I see nothing about "hunters" or making anything available to/for them.. nor anything about making them happy .... interesting document... everything seems to be for ALL PA CITIZENS.. no one group in particular

If that's the case they can all pony up some jing. It's the hunters that fund this agency and should be first and foremost in any Game management descisions....

Did ya see the part about DOUBLING the days for youth and adult to hunt with Sunday hunting.. and who was it that kept saying it was just about ONE DAY... when many of us said = it would not be that.. it would be all or nothing... Doubling the days to hunt sure sounds like all or nothing to me... and not just ONE DAY well off to my sportsman's meeting.. LATER...

In fairness if this was directed at Bings, he was referring to our current firearms deer season. Deer seem to be the main player in the discussions about Sunday hunting. It would remain true that if Sundays were added to the current deer season we would still be talking about one day.

Not in favor of non-hunters ponying up jing but am concerned with the constituency part. If the constituency that is being referred to is hunters, Houston we have a problem.

Then once they hand over the jing, they'll say "we pay too, we want the peak of the fall leaf colors to ourselves. We want 4 wheeler trails to ride. More horse trails. We want a birdie migration season, No hunting. We pay too." Then what ? Careful what you wish for.

Doesn't matter any more, with that single statement of policy we officially have no more say than the Audubon, or HSUS in matters relating to how the states wildlife is managed. I've been through this several times in my working career but hoped I would never see it with the PGC.

It might be taken you awhile, but you're getting there. Having watched this circus closely for a long time now, Id say thats EXACTLY what they mean. Recent boards and staff have seen us as a necessary evil. A tool, and other than that just a group of problem causing stakeholders. You can see it in many areas...this policy statement just one. Another would be the selectively remembered "history" of deer management in pa. Where they basically paint us as the historic villians and dont pull many punches. They are also costantly downplaying the importance of our "satisfaction" etc.

I am in the process of reading the manual now. Here is one that stuck out to me: Board members will rescue themselves from voting or deliberating on issues in which they may have a financial interest. Is isabella selling crossbows yet ?

The guy would almost not be able to participate at all on many issues, given his profession. The key above is the word "may", pretty much leaves it wide open. "Maybe" that is why he voted no.

Ive heard from a reliable to remain confidential source, at the time the crossbows were being discussed that there most certainly were some "kickbacks" given to some commissioners. Among them some "free" hunts and crossbows. I have absolutely no doubt that its true. Not saying so because I oppose crossbows, at this point I basically accept it is what it is, and dont have a big problem with it now. But I do have problem with the back room dealings and how things work at Elmerton Avenue.
