2 or 3 rods per person in 2012

I am trying to confirm a rumor that I heard at work. My co worker told me that he had heard that PA Fish and Boat Comm. changed the regulation to 3 rods per person starting 2012. Has anyone else heard anything about this. I have looked on their website and haven't found anything. Thanks

XTOP, Ice fishing has been any five devices for the past few years. i.e. (Five rods), (one rod 4 tip-ups), (two rods-three tip-ups), etc, etc. If I'm not running and gunning I might use two rods and then set out two or three tip-ups. I find the tip-ups tend to keep me in one place too long. Hope this helps. Lou

Yeah just didnt know if you would be allowed 3 rods out of your 5 total lines instead of only being allowed 2 rods out of your 5 total. Another dead stick rod would be nice. More fun on a rod than a tip up haha.

With PA going 3 rods per person will make first day of trout quite interesting LOL. I might have to go to NPL to watch and have a good laugh LOL. I think it will make trolling better for some and others well let the tangles begin,Man imagine seeing a boat with lets say 4 fishermen and 12 rods in the water OOOHHHH what a mess and lose of equipment. Should make for some comical sites.Heck almost can't wait. My self I think I'll try a couple times for FLATS but I'm thinking 2 rods is enough. Thinking of the past year how many times 3-4 in one boat anchored down with the river current and 2 rods a piece was kinda tough,Maybe have to run planner boards to spread them out a bit. Dave

Xtop - there's no specification on types of lines used for ice fishing.
If you wanted to have 1 jigging rod & 4 dead sticks set up, you'd be legal.
    Here's the reg...
ICE FISHING EQUIPMENT – It is unlawful while ice fishing to use more than five fishing devices, which may consist of rods, hand lines, tip-ups or any combination. Each device shall contain a single fishing line with no more than three hooks attached to each line. Holes cut in ice may not exceed 10 inches between the farthest points as measured in any direction. All lines, rods or tip-ups shall be under the immediate control of the person using them

Running 12 rods on Erie is a piece of cake, as long as your boat is set up for it.  Shouldn't matter if you have 6 guys or 4 guys.  Now, if you get 4 or 5 lines firing all at once, then I could see where you'd have a problem but then again, that is a good problem to have.

They changed the regs a few years ago.  It used to be only 2 out of the 5 could be rods, but now you can use all 5 rods if you wanted just as pork posted...

2 RODS AND 3 TIP UPS OR 1 & 4  WAS THE OLD LAW.
AS PORK SAID, ITS ANY COMBO ON NON COMBO OF 5 DEVICES.

They should considere amending the law to 11 out of 12 months.Fishing 3 rods from shore in April is pretty nuts. Soooo many guys shore fishing for pellet heads then. I really don't care, cause I do not lake fish for trout in April at all. But it is just going to be a cricus.
Good deal for the charter/lake boat guys..
Nice for slow trolling for crappies in the spring. you will be able to finallly get to try the spider rod type set up that you see in all of the national magazines with rods everywhere....

    Just my thoughts..

See it as a non factor for charters, mostly they had rods covered when counting the 4 rods for the captain and mate. Will be nice for those of us that occasionally fish with only 2 people on board, will be nice to have 6 rods out rather than 4. Don't see running 12 rods as a problem for experienced trollers, I've run 8 with no problem but won't be running 12 any time soon. Can see where it might be a cluster for some fishing trout though...

Try as I might, I have a very difficult time casting more than two fly rods at a time, so this change will have no affect on my angling.

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

EYES I am/was referring to not so experienced trollers. I have seen a few boat on Arthur using 2 rods per man,was quite amusing and ended up with catching their cut-off tangles with my prop.
