crowds
Well; a lodge keeper friend of mine called me the other day to wish my family and I a happy thanksgiving... he told me about the crowds and was comparing them to salmon season... I just did a little fish forum lurking (draketrutta style) and it seems as if crowds are even heavier now... seems to be lots of fish though... im interested to see what the salmon river will be like during steelhead season 5 years from now... better yet; how much will my property be worth????lmao... Hey tight lines to anyone up there... hope everyone is enjoying their weekend regardless of whatever they're doing...

first off - some of the reports on another site that state "went 11 for 20 in 2 hrs on beads" is pure Comedy Gold. Those guys should get a job with Barnum&Bailey to work with trained seals. If the fishing is that easy on beads, why even do it??? Where is the challenge? unless you are trying to drum up bizness for a vested interest (yeah - that's riiiigghhhtttttt). DB - IMO - the Salmon River has gone wayyyyy downhill in terms of quality fishing - and the true indication is an inverse relationship between steelhead size and crowd size - a.k.a. more nitwits chasing, catching, and releasing cookie cutter steelhead. The DEC, in their infinite wisdom, have basically turned the SR into a big Erie Ditch. p.s. - as far as your property value goes, I suggest you go with the Poooolaski/Altmar real estate strategy of fixing up the inside and letting the outside look like a decrepit doghouse to keep the ever-increasing real estate taxes at bay. But since you already live in the People's Republic of Joisey I reckons your anal glands are already "loose". Chew on Dat - Lurker !!!

The taxes up here are INSANE my assessed value went up 40 k even with market in the tank. The assessor has caught onto that strategy and if you do not let them in they just go by sq footage and assess by comparables with the same sq footage. My dads 100 yr old farmhouse with a dirt cellar, not been painted in 30 years ect ect went up 25k until he made the assessor come back in and look around the inside. It still went up 10k. As far as crowds, they are bigger and bigger each year in the last 5 years or so. It is just like snowmobiling. 20 years ago you could ride trails were nice not alot of crowds. Now the trails are packed with sleds, people are drinking and riding, trash is left everywhere and the trails are crap because an hour after the groomer goes through 500 sleds go by and tear it up into 3 foot washboards. Sold the sled and got an ATV , not that is getting bigger too.

Yeah; jersey taxes are bad but I must say that southern ny is worse in many parts/ways.. many town and villages with no water/sewer, no garbage/recycling or yard waste pickup.... but taxes through the roof... no business district/park upkeep... so now the question is where foes the money go???? The property value was just a joke; but as clin mentioned it seems as if the towns and villages are pressing that issue... Crowds... yes they are getting out of control... Anal glands???? Don't worry drake mine are doing just fine.... On the other hand; how are your hemrhoids treating you??? Or do you put a pillow on your computer thrown you sit at all day????? Yeeeeeee buhhhhh whawwwww.....

Sat 6am, 10 cars parked along the road in pineville. Thats right, along the road, not in the lot. 10 cars parked along the road at the bovines, 1 car in the ellis cove lot. 20 plus cars in the LFZ and 20 plus cars at the unemployment lot.

ORIGINAL: chartist1 I found the crowds in the DSR section to be quite tolerable....The public area are a complete joke.....Its the DSR for me every year from now on. Hey chartist; you are quite right... let's hope this doesn't start a dsr battle though...lol Anyways; I have even noticed a mass increase of steelhead anglers down in the dsr, but nothing like the rest of the river... on the other hand, as many other guys here say; just walk a little and you'll find open water.... but; how long will that last???? It seems these days even the far to reach spots always have a guy or two in it or driftboats parked in it.... time will tell... Drake; regarding the 11 for 22 reports: im not so quick to call them bs.... had days like that myself.... also; with the bead head crew going around these days; im seeing more and more guys having days like that.... Ok; now that I've put a target on my forehead.... open fire.... :)

Gotta agree with Drake- those reports bout ALL THOSE HITS are bringing the crowds. They arrive to a dose of reality. Lets see if it lasts- most will get THAT attitude ( I have it) bout reports and just fish when they wanna after that. BTW- compared my asessment up there to gross taxation rates and it aint that different than here at home. Its the Ed part that drives the tax rate more than anything else no matter where ya go- stop droppin kids is the best way to lower taxes.

I just got back and can attest to the lack of deer hunters. However, I walked, caught fish and had a good 1/4 mile of river to myself this morning. Even yesterday afternoon was extremely fishable with knowledgeable guys spaced well apart. I made arrangements to park on private property(Not Dimes) and snowshoe in this winter. I expect very few guys, and the ones that brave it out are a welcome sight. Snow and cold is going to weed out the crowds, and soon. If anyone landed multiple fish and could brag on huge numbers of hookups, I talked to some good fisherman, and locals to boot, and they said it was slow. A couple on the bank is a good day for me, so I don't know the difference. I'll write a full report tomorrow, Nancy and I are very sick with food poisoning. Charlie

Again no disrespect but I'm friends w/ more than a couple of guides ALL who have done very well w/ their sports the last few of days--If I'm fishing the same general area as they MY--- results usually mirror theirs---don't really understand the hater mentality here--once it clicks it's usually quite easy---the 90/10 thing???

I'm not a hater, I'm just an old school dinosaur that misses the old days. Honestly, I would get old for me to hook 20 fish in 2 hours - that is a fish on every 6 minutes for the mathematically challenged. I bought a centerpin outfit a few years ago, and while it does have it's plus sides - able to reach certain stretches that are off limits when wading, after a while I feel like a friggin nitwit watching a bobber. Flyfishing or bottom bouncing at least makes you work on the mechanics of drift. Metalslayer and Slammo are right - Pinners = Cavemen. The Salmon River had become a Disneyland, with the crowds and fish stacked like they are in a rubber pool at a Sportsman's show. It just ain't worth the effort for me to travel & spend the money like I used to. But I will make a couple trips - as soon as the blizzards start and the retrads stay home. later d00ds.

Landed 1 of 2 and missed 3-4 other hits that blew up the bag--fished under 3 hrs---my friend Jack however landed 4 b4 I got there and another 3 while I was there--I perhaps was off my A game and Jack was using bobbers and pink sacks(of which I had none)--if Jack were to give a report he'd say it was pretty good--I was fishing right next to or within sight of for 3 hrs and I'd say it was ok

Will probably head up late in the week for a coupla days - generally not smart enough ta stay down river and avoid the crowds but there is a certain rock an log upriver that lots of guys overlook. After I pound the daylights outa those- may head downstream. NOT after 20 a day and hope for maybe a strike an hour or so- that will be perfect. Just rewarding enough to keep your interest perked and make ya work at it.

hey folks , nice to hear some are fishin the river and many still day dreaming..lol.. Fichy & Nancy : WTF food poisoning !!! Dang.. hope it wasnt at an infamous place in Altmar.. A couple of "US" guys went for dinner and my have got alochol poisoning waiting.. Again be well fast.. Now some B.S. (again). Really been busy, too busy to think about fishing and wondering where the hell the deer are.. Hunting has been slow, last week windy, this weekend HOT !! Excuses, excuses I know.. But that's life.. Keep the good reports coming and maybe ? I'll be fishing open water in 2 weeks.. Why not, no Ice to be found. Pictures help. Nice Rainbow Clint Crowds: Hummmm.. I really don't like crowds, I also don't like to gamble. Not many crowds in the ADK's, Not many crowds on the Ice and none at deer camp.. Really boys my Ontario tribs days are numbered.. Of course I'll always take my invites with friends But in most cases I'll be one less angler in the crowd..lol.. Looking forward to SR fishermen & women stories. Peace & Tuna
