Veterans bear hunt

My son and his friend wanted to bear hunt so off to camp we went.
On our arrival we saw a small bear above the lane.
(this was of camp two yrs. ago...

We took a ride Thursday and veiwed an old civil war grave in the middle of nowhere

Back at camp my son took his bow to wait for the bear we saw the day before to come down for the apples that seemed to be everywhere. No bear showed though. That night we went spotting and there was that little bear by the lane. After we ate and settled down with a brew and fire out came the cards.

After taking all their change to bed and woke to this..

Decided to turkey hunt and look for tracks. The birds were two mountains over and I saw one nice bear track near camp. This got us excited for sure.
Saturday the snow was mostly gone except for the shady side of the mts. I shot at a cayote chasing two does but missed. Dennis, sons friend saw a bear in the morning before light but that was it. No one saw any bear the rest of the day. We went spotting again that evening and sure enough..there was that little bear again.
Sunday I took my son to fish with the fly rods.( his first time )

Managed 20+ fish between us but I suspect Mike will stick to his spinning rod. Maybe some day I,ll get him into the steel and he,ll change his mind..:)
Monday was a zero. My son looked for that little bear again but no luck.
Tuesday I decided to try to push some and as I walked down the lane there was that little bear.
So I shot!

lol. That little bear fell after the second picture and hit the ground running. Did alot of walking but only saw that little bear curled up in some leaves.
Later that evening my son went looking for that little bear again. But around 5 a 350lb. brute stepped onto the lane. He whipped his gun up but didn,t get the safety all the way off. He quickly put it on fire but when he put that bear in his sights again...there was orange in the scope also. Turned out to be another fellow in our group also saw the bear. They had each other in their sights. Neither shot and the bruin walked away.
All in all it was a great time with these two Iraq vets. It was nice to spend time with my son who is still in the Marines in Virgina. Now to get him a buck...to be continued.

Great story.  Thanks for sharing.  Glad to hear that safety was the first concern on that big bear sighting.
