10/31-11/3 report
I got some time off to fish the streams last week... Had a blast think we caught about 100-150 in 4 day's of fishing... (not sure how many were landed) btw... All fish were hooked clean... NO SNAGGING!!!! Fished rick's for a minute only 10-15 in hole at the bridge a couple more down stream... Nice numbers of fish in the flats but not really my cup of tea... Legion hole sucked if you weren't in the head water... Nice pod of fish at the rock wall above... Iron bridge was ok few fish there... Was to lazy to walk down to the tubes with the new parking... Caught fish at the mouth of elk and hooked a couple off the rock wall... All and all was no to Impressed with elk so far this year... Want over to the nut house to see what all the fuss was about... Hooked a bunch site fishing naked singles... Found fish chewing at the Manchester didn't want to spend most of my time there but we caught a ton of fish everyday there but thursday... Only caught about 16-20 between the 2 of us in 6 hours.. Still a good day but not like Wednesday... Had fun with Art putting on a clinic... Also fished the lake in the evenings... Had a blast fishing in the masses... I like the new parking and the real tree table... Need one of them in my back yard... Anyways had a ton of fun meet some cool people... Had some trying to pinch us out of our spots because of the amount of fish we were catching... But, o well it happens... Hope this helps in your decision making... It's would be tough fishing for people that didn't know how to fish the conditions... I would wait until Erie gets some rain... but, if you got the time and knowledge there are plenty of fish in the stream.. JM1

Sounds like you had fun, me and Loomis put a bunch on the bank again on sunday too. Fish werent quite as wreckless as last week though I must say. Water temperatures are starting to play a roll in that...

There were plenty of fish around where we were at that is for sure....I think 2 other guys caught one or two but the fish were hitting consistently (for us) on various jigs and "naked singles" as well all morning. The water was quite cold Sunday AM, the fish were definitely acting like it first thing in the morning. Kind of a bummer if you ask me. Not looking forward to fishing the creeks w/ snow on the ground unless frozen.
Been hearing mixed reports about Elk access this year, with all this rain so far the mouth has yet to load up to typical standards. I am hoping this dry spell we have been having changes that.

Well, I have been up 11 times already since the end of August and been fishing in weather like we have had recently....in some days just a tee shirt. It really doesn't matter to me what the water conditions are like, high, muddy, green, low, clear, ill fish in whatever. Just this year since I have a choice I prefer not to fish in the cold and snow unless I am ice fishing. Those dark sluggish fish get old after awhile, and this year for ice fishing the creeks should be pretty darn good if it freezes soon.... Now, If you are strictly a fly-guy, winter time with green water is a very viable condition that will warrant the use of a fly rod more effective than in low and clear water like we have been having so I can understand why you would want that, but I am excited to bust out the mini-spin rigs and put those to work.

100-150 caught, but you don't know how many were landed??? I don't undersatnad how you can count it as a catch if you don't land it.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

That's pretty good for low , unfishable conditions. OK I'm guilty, I rose to the bait. You caught me with the BS post. Jigmaster, save your numbers for the Steeler's stats , they don't mean anything here.

Haha, I actualy meant that the water was getting a little bit to cold for fish to slam jigs first thing in the morning. Fish were VERY sluggish sunday morning, kind of a boring fight for the first 7 or 8 fish I caught. Not looking forward to cold snow run-off, that crap is for the birds.

Tim- cold water is awesome.. The fish aren't as aggressive but you put 20 fish in front of me and I will catch almost all of them... The males get the territorial instinct and you can smoke them... Give it a try... You got less pressure also because it keeps all the fair weather fisherman at home...

Ahh... No BS post needed... I have fished these tributaries for almost 20 years and lived in Erie for 8 of them... I have put in some work and I know how to fish in any water condition... My bread and butter is low and clear water... When you can't catch
Them I can... And before you come back with some wise comment.. No I don't snag them...

lol, bro I've been fishing these streams for quite awhile myself... Catching old, cold sluggish fish just isn't my thing. I'll ice fish for them occasionaly, at least then I can stay warm. As far as less pressure, I don't know about that... because over the last five years or so there's been a new trend of people that think it's cool to fish (or at least talk about fishing) in 25 degree temperatures and snow storms. Regardless, have fun being miserable with your cold hands, feet and frozen guides, haha. -Tim
