either week end will be ok
lower will be better for fresh ones
up stream you would be picking them off the back of redds for the most part
    egg sacks and beads
i like blue sacks....beads off color pink, orange and prismatic green

Some of those upriver Steel behind the beds over the past couple of weeks were  pretty fresh and bright. They can run up pretty quickly.

I agree with bear; either weekend should be equally a hit or miss... the river has seen great numbers of steel for this time or year already.... last time I saw this much steel coming in at this time was back in early-mid 90's and they to this date have been my most productive steelhead years... you should have a good (possibly great) shot with either weekend...

    Fyi:

This time of year can be very unpredictable with weather and water levels... good luck with your trip

Bear- Was catching Steel behind beds and close along shoreline soft water where they tend to run up on both trips for the past two weeks now. Sometimes gotta wait out the guys standing in knee deep water on the sides trying to fish the big runs cause that knee deep is where they tend to run. Like to get out in the middle in some places and cast right to shore for my drift.
Only targeted steel part of the time and was King fishing the rest but the Steel were there. Caught some and lost some on each daily trip with only limited time specifically on Steel.  All upriver.
That said ( love upriver) down below will be the freshest fishes and perhaps bigger numbers- watch that DSR report daily.
