To kill or not to kill- Albino deer?

Talked to a hunting buddy this morning. He passed on an 8pt at ten yards(basket rack). While walking out he saw a large albino doe. Would you guys shoot an albino deer? I was always told it was MAJOR bad luck to kill an albino. My wife's cousin killed an albino 8pt years ago. He has had LOTS of bad luck(divorced, lost job) What do you think?

I think you create your own luck. I agree with MM.

I saw an albino doe years ago behind our place during archery. At first I thought it was a goat at a distance. After realizing what it was I never picked up my bow as it passed under my stand. Never even considered shooting it. Also saw some pie balds through the years and let them walk as well. It just me. Ive been taught that a hunt is more than killing and now I can agree.

A guy I work with shot a little goat-of-a-deer albino quite a few years ago...
his wife wouldn't let him bring it in the house...
the boss wouldn't let him hang it in the office...
he put his trigger lock on his gun & lost the key...
his wife surprised him with the news of unexpected twins at 40 years old...
he never got another deer - finally gave up & quit hunting (too busy with the twins)
    convinced he's cursed...
    All that said -
    Yes, I'd shoot it.

If it was a mature doe or a buck I wanted to affix a tag too, wouldn't hesitate.

Made the white goat mistaken ID years ago - still feel like an idiot- woulda  put an arrow in it if I had known. Would be different if they were breeding up a new strain that would become prominent but they arent soooo -deer is deer.

Shoot the 8 point "basket rack", let the albi walk. If you do shoot an albino you almost have to have the hide tanned, if not then why shoot it? To each his (or her) own though, I have no problem with someone else shooting one...

I probably wouldn't get the hide tanned.  White is just another color.  I have seen some super cool piebald patterns though.  I may consider it if I were ever lucky enough to harvest one.

been there ,done that .it was the first and probably ONLY totaly white albino deer i will ever see while hunting.(pink eyes and nose with clear holves. not one brown hair). makes a nice mount ,had the hide tanned & feet made into gun rack. total bulls=== about bad luck. luck is what you make it. now i have an albino squirel in the backyard. i may give it a pass , just hope the hawks and yotes dont get it.it would look REAL nice on the fireplace mantel though.we will see....maybe

Well, like everthing else, everone has thier own opinion, but, I shot a piebald about 5 yrs ago & have been plagued with health prob. since then. At first I laughed it off,but I am not laughing now. Would not shoot one again, btw this one had blue eyes & clear hooves. Tasted good though. sam

tippycanoe ,i agree they are cool to see but not twenty min. after it went into the barn 3 pickups of locals showed up to put a drive on the same patch of woods.they knew it was in the area,i did not. with no snow on the ground what do you think its chances were??? we just sat at the house and let them put there drive on , an hour sooner thet would have shot it. i realy DOUBT if givin a chance at another i would take it though. after 44 years of hunting now its nice to just enjoy being in the woods
