I know plugs, spoons, etc. catch lots of steelhead out in the big lake, but for some reason some people call people who use spinners, spoons, plugs, ect in the streams snaggers. I recently saw a video on Youtube of a guy using crankbaits and spinners for steelhead and salmon in a small stream(sight fishing pretty much) and the fish would intentionally chase and eat the lure. So that goes to show that they will eat those big lures in the creeks, although some do accidentally get snagged of course. There will always be the goofballs who do try to snag them with those types of lures, but the fish will actually eat them too. I always use flies, bait, jigs, ect, but that one video did inspire me to try some plugs and spinners next time I'm out. This is an interesting topic.

Seen a guy using a 6 inch double jointed Rapala on Elk a few years ago.He said he didn't get a ton of hits but when he got one it was usually a big fish.

I watched  a duud slam 'em on a Banjo minnow once .
Suspended fish in a large gin clear pool.
Fish were coming from 30ft away to bang the Banjo

I've caught several on soft plastic bass baits when nothing else  would get a look.
Caught  more than few on rapalas over the years too

my number one producer over the years for low, gin clear low/no flow  pools with suspended and pressured fish has been 3" trout worms fished weightless on a sz 16 scud hook

pins minnow, first fish this year

    The infamous Flatfish...

These lure was carefully guided up into the fishes mouth while they were suspended in a big pod, they don't hit lures and stop eating when in the crick' so they can lay eggs, that's all they care about...

Yep they definitely stop eating once they get in the creeks. They are fasting... ;)
