10/21

Got out to our spot around 8, mid river. I knew I had to fix the leaders on both rods so I fixed my buddys kid and sent him out. I started fixing mine and looked up he was in a tree already. He comes back in I fix and send him back out and finish mine, Im heading out and in probably 10 casts Im watching him as I walk and wham he hits a fish I see it yell its a steelhead and look where his hand was, right on the reel, snap goes the leader. He walks over and I retie #3 and I havent even made a cast yet. Well we crushed them all day, he landed 3 huge kings every one in the mouth and this is third time salmon fishing ever and hes learning on a fly rod. Today was the first time he has used polaroids and said he still could not see anything. I landed a nice male king first then a beautiful steelhead then two more kings, had two other steelies on, one actually came right at me after the take went back away from me than back at me around me than ripping down stream all in about 10 seconds. Alot of are kings were males and If you can find hens on beds and your smart enough to leave them alone you can have great action behind them all day. Now for the fly of the day, I hate to say this but I saw all those fish dime posted and the fly so I stopped in to pineville tackle shop and buy 12 get 1 free so I got 7 even tied with the orange wrap, and 6 with small red beads. Basically fished them all day, I swung some big stuff but they would not even hold as it went buy they would swing 4 feet away, put the estaz fly back on and be back into fish. Next trip up I start teaching him to tie his own knots, Great day Thanks for the fly dime.
