October Special Antlerless Season, Day 1 =

I got home from work and hurried to my blind.

Had 4 deer walk by at 6:10pm. Maybe 35 yards. One was the goofy ear adult followed by 3 smaller deer. When they got to the neighbor's apple tree they realized someone was at the camp and here they came again only running .. they took off back across the flats running directly away from me. Then another came up from the bottom and heard the other 4 running and snorting and took off after them.

I could have shot any of them as they walked by but wanted to wait til morning or tomorrow evening .. today was a BUSY BUSY day at the hardware and I felt a little to tired to field dress, drag and hang a deer this evening. I did sell another 3 adult hunting licenses today. ??

I did set up the heater in the blind in case it is cold tomorrow morning as I wait for them to return from night time feeding and head back to the "bottom"... talk around here is that the morning is going to be NASTY weather -- so it may not be a good morning for deer travel.. we shall see

Heard 4 shots from 6pm to 6:30pm , two sounded like rifles and 2 maybe muzzleloaders.. ??

I was out duck hunting in 2B this morning till 8:30, in an area where I can usually hear shots quite a ways off. Other than me whiffing on some of the easiest shots I'll get this season , I heard no shooting.

Picked up Mentored Hunt tags for my 2 oldest kids today, but both are having sleepovers with friends tomorrow after school and don't want to hunt Saturday

    Good luck tomorrow Doc.

Sounds like another case when you should just left your cross gun at home ? Or was it that you were trophy hunting and that is the only reason you took it in the first place ?

I explained why I did not shoot -- but you must have missed reading that part of the
post -- you were probably in a hurry to make a reply since I started the thread ??

and I'll be darned if I can find anywhere in that post where I said anything about having the crossbow... you should really start to read my posts instead of guessing at what was in them just so you can reply to them

BTW .. I had the 30/30.. she has a better range and loudier noise when it goes off...

Haha My Bad. I thought you were a toting the cross gun. So you were trophy huntin then and not meat huntin. Its ok Dr Trout, If you had such a tiring day then you should be fast asleep by now at your age.

Maybe he was just scouting, and only took the gun in case he was attacked by a border crossing, herpes infected monkey

He would kill one, he knows how to compensate for 10 yard shots.

Took the mutts for a run at a local state park that is attached to a SGL this afternoon.  Saw one father and youth heading out to hunt antlerless deer as we were heading in.  Decided to stand behind my vehicle while we talked to them after the youth swept me twice with his muzzle while get ready.

Was asked by the local fish WCO to be on the lookout for an arrowed buck that was repoted at the park office.  The DCNR crew had been looking for it most of the day, but only managed to get their truck stuck to the point that it had to be pulled out with a winch.

We did jump a decent buck in the area where hikers had reported spotting the wounded deer, but it appeared to be fairly healthy.  We found were it was bedded and there were no signs of any injury -- hair, blood, etc. despite the report that it had an arrow sticking from a front shoulder.  It could have been a different deer.

The poster formally known as Duncsdad

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Don't blame ya.  Heck, I flinch when the hunting show hosts on TV do the same to the camera man.

A picture of a hunter sleeping and a big buck sniffing him GONE! Also I wish Dr Trout good luck and hope he shoots a monster and you delete It. Garbage ? What ever makes you feel good. I'm starting to see why the member count is low on the hunting boards.
