I don't have (want) any fancy phone either but sure do have a camera.. Best investment ever was a $100.00 digital waterproof camera 3 years ago.. Even the cheap digital cameras work well until they get wet. and been through many. Shoot I still have undeveloped rolls of film lying around , but thats just too outdated in these days.. No excuses boys, if it's not captured in a picture, it didn't happen..lol..

Cept for the Beaver dam looks like right across the street from home here in CT. The darned hills even look right, Black rubber worm with a split shot bout 6 inches in front and rigged for weeds. KILLER

I was going to mention the wind. 20-30 with gusts makes it difficult ( at least for me). Much like steelheading in general, once you have them figured out they change. Constant wind you can change your casting plain and sidearm your cast "under" the wind, but just then it drops or gusts and all the preplanning is useless. Finally time the wind right, make the perfect cast set up and just as the swing comes to the sweet spot a gust comes along and picks the lifting the line and drags the fly like a bad mend. Tough couple of days even if the fish are moving. Might not affect it so much if you step up close and tight line.`

nice pond pics.. I'm afraid the dayz of the scum frogs hopped along the lily pads are over. Have a pond like that near my house - gotta try to get out for some bluegills. Slipfloat rig, small jigs, tipped with waxies = my default plan of attack. I like slipfloats because they can cast quite far - for use shoreline chuckers.

Drake; have ever used those slip floats on deep water in Ontario tribal??? I've seen guys clean house with them...yet to try it myself...

No I have not used them in tribs. I use them on lakes and ponds. Slip floats are indeed the cat's meow and are worth the little bit of effort to rig up. You set depth way beyond the length of your rod if need be,(which cannot be done with conventional type bobber), they fly through the air like a bullet, and casting accuracy is dead-on bulls-eye - which is a great improvement over most of my normal schmuck casts. Fishy stores sell them in 3 packs of varying colors & sizes, and they come with the pre-twisted nail-knot thread which acts as the float stop. It is amazing how the float stop never gets hung up in the rod guides. IMO - One of the Greatest Caveman Inventions Ever !!

Drake, guys down south use them for a technique called "float and fly"; which is a small jig suspended under those slip bobbers. It's a deadly technique for trophy smallmouth suspended on dropoffs in the winter months. Charlie

great pic's fichy man that makes me wish I went fishing (brookies) instead of hunting.. how is it the water was so still ? Cripes out in oneonta there were white caps on our 2 acre pond, even the geese were bobbin around like crazy.. Those slip bobbers are great and if your in a pinch just tie a small slip loop knot in your line to act as a bobber stop.. Then just pull the knot out and line is back to normal.. They work good for brookies too but we use bacon strips on the hook .. Another use I have for them is pannies on ice, tiny ones though.. No pic's from me until weds, lots of work tomorrow..

HT - interesting comment about the loop knot - I never tried it for slip bobber purposes. for sake of conversation - one downside I see is if you cannot slide a loopknot up/down your mono mainline for quick depth adjustments. I know you can retie, but big fingers & cold temps could make that a beotch for me.. Bobber stops don't they get fouled up in the rod guides or cause problems when they are spooled onto the reel - we all know what loops do to a spinning reel. In a pinch I have used waxed dental floss to make a very tight knot on the mono if I run out of the pre-tied nail knot thingys that come with the bobbers. It holds up pretty well. Dental floss is also good for marking depth on ice fishing rigs - sure beats those darn buttons. p.s. - the tiny little bead that sits atop the float and slides up the line actually does the stopping once it reaches the bobberstop knot. Not sure is you use a bead.

drake: You are so right about the dental floss vs. buttons on ice fishing depths. Especially when you get those same windchills as you are gathering up your stuff at the end of the day. No problem with the dental floss as it gathers up fine on the spool. Eagle Ed
