Best yet--
Was in the North Country for the past week and got to fish the SR on Tuesday the 12th. IT was happenin.
Took my wife in the Am to upper river where she landed her first King and fought several more. We also had many KIngs and average Hos and large Steel on line with no landings-- lotsa fish and nowhere near the guys from two weeks ago though still somewhat crowded on the better spots.
Went back alone in the afternoon and the Steel had been replaced by HUGE Hos mixed in with lotsa Kings many of which were very fresh and large. Course had put away the heavy rods and gone back with the 8 wt switch hoping for steel.
Hard to believe but the fish run in the PM was even heavier than in the morning- it was either a large run or a huge pod that took most of the day to come through.
Been waiting for that all season. They were coming through in groups up to 6 or 8 at a time and no waiting for the next ones. Singles doubles and triples all over the place and they were biting as they held --and hold they did very commonly so as to get a few passes and even a chance to change flies for some.
Only down part of the day was a HUGE hen Ho that I caught in some fast water. Was not till the fight was over that I realized just how big and egg bloated she was -woulda busted her off if I had known. With all those eggs she was clearly in the 20 lb class. Saw many males on stringers in that weight class. Hybreds???
Gotta get back up quick - IT is happenin. Still only average number of beds around for this time of month but clearly its gonna be nutso for the next coupla weeks. Some of those morning Steel BTW were in the mid teens too.
Did my fishin in the upper river and saw only a few dead kings around- the LFZ however was carpeted with them on Wed evening.
CP and those guys going up this week are gonna have a ball.
