Hey pinner; as most have posted there are fish everywhere; the river is pretty short in distance so you should manage to check out a few spots... try to key in on walking pace water between 2 and 4 foot deep in between crowds if you're looking for steel in the mid to upper river...

If you're willing to pay 45 for dsr it could be worth your while with the weather that's coming in...

    Good luck

Fish the fast water, less crowds...more fish...if your pinnin.... fish the tailouts into the glides...prepare for crowds....do more walking, especially near the parking lots....you'll find less pressured fish.

If you want to fish public water, most on the SR is, a good spot upriver to pin even in crowded conditions ..park at the Altmar parking lot,
walk downstream past the crowds by the bridge, to the first set of fast riffles, fish there all the way down to the barrel hole, (tree overhanging river), its a 200-300 yd stretch and fish hold in all the pockets and seams

    Good Luck and Tight Lines

Thanks for the responses. I'm leaving in a few hours should be there around noon. I'll check out all those places as I will be mostly pinning. I am brining my spinning tackle also but I plan to fish the pin.

Good luck... the pin should do well in the in between waters on trout... beware of salmon though... there's a lot of them around and they can put a beating on your rod if its not heavy enough...

Well my first trip was an interesting one to say the least. I hooked one trout but lost it after a short battle. That was my only trout of the trip. I did manage to hook into 2 kings not really what I was looking for but it was a good fight. I landed one of them and lost the other. The one I did land was around 20lbs. I got it on a size 14 hook with a chartruse eggsac. I learned one thing very fast and that was my hooks are to small. I'm so use to Erie steelhead that I use small hooks all the time.

I fished all the waters between the holes and the tailouts but I had very little action. After talking to a bunch of shop owners I think I'm going to come up in a month or so to try to get into some browns and steelhead without all the comotion of the salmon chunkers around.

All in all I had a great time. Oh I spent most of my time below the long bridge hole, I did check out the water below the tressel and found some nice runs but no takers for me. On a side note the circus at the tressel is quite the site.

    Thanks for all the responses.
