Lookin to test a boat!!

Hello! I'm getting back into fishing an picked up a "free" boat and got the motor running. I need to find a lake/river near Irwin, PA where I can test out the 9.9 and to see if the boat will float! Any ideas where I can go locally where a 9.9 is allowed!
Thanks
Dan

    DannyG -

Give the Yough a shot, & good luck. Pack your gear too, I'm pretty sure the smallmouth should be willing to play.

One of the best things that I found with a 9.9, is use some Stabil (Seafoam or other stabilizer) with every fill up. From what I have read, ethanol in most of our gas, is pretty rough on small motors.

The Yough is a good choice as long as the current isn't running too fast. Always head upstream so that you can get back to the launch if you have problems. Loyalhanna Lake may be another option.

Beyond the above, you could pop across to the Mon River too.  Sure, you'll cross the Yough to get there but it will be a bit slower water just in case...

You can also hit the Allegheny at Harmarville and give the eyes, sauger and bass a go. It should be about 20 min. from the Irwin exit. Stay in the backchannel for some calm water and if you got a fishfinder, bump some live minnies along the drop offs and you should catch something.

Unless you are launching at the 10th Ward launch on the Yough, it might be a pain. Not sure if the Boston Bridge is still closed or not.

Did you get the motor running up to full rpm in the driveway with muffs on? Don't forget to check out reverse too. Good luck.

Boston Bridge is open kinda! It is not completely open and the lanes are narrow. I came home from work over the Boston Bridge yesterday afternoon and sat for a miserably long time in the backed up traffic. I did not come home that way today.

Thanks for all the help. We ended up hitting the Boston launch and the 9.9 ran great as did an old electric I rebuilt. Can't say the same for my sons Jeep which blew a brake line on the ramp. Had a couple little smallies hit. Did not know about the fuel stabilizer. I've got some for my log splitter and will be using it. Bought a depth finder for it but wanted to make sure the boat actually floated before getting it mounted!  Will definitely give some of the other places mentioned a shot. BTW. Loyalhanna launch was closed due to high water but just opened today. They have a facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LoyalhannaLakeUSACE. Thanks again!
