Fly tying

So I have finally decided to start to tie my own flies.  What are the easiest most effective ones to tie.  I have done a few eztaz eggs, and a few futile attempts at some wooly buggers and egg sucking leaches but they are getting a bit better.  Any others to try that are on the easier side for me to learn.  There are a ton of videos to watch, but I need to know what to look for.

    Hey clint; its always great to hear when someone takes that next step to tying their own flies; good for you man...

    There was a thread about a month or two back that has a bunch of different ties from different anglers; you should check it out.

    On the other hand; when I was much younger and learning my brother father and I would learn from books; they worked great for us... a good book can teach you the basics and eventually you will get to point where you can look at most flies and tie them... patience go a long way too... good luck...

    Ps... if you're looking to target winter steel; I recomend you look in to some books on trout nymphs and wet flies....

    Maybe post this in the fly tying forum. You may get some good info there or look at pictures via google.

    I will targeting salmon, steelhead and browns.  I will use the search function and visit the fly tying forum.   Honestly even though my ties look like crap now, I have alot of fun doing it and that is what it is all about.

    Contact your local TU Chapter to find out if they are sponsoring a fly tying class over the winter.  It's a great way to learn the basics.  In the meantime, trial and error along with repetition and perserverance will improve your skills along with skill level.

    Treid it, then my kids came. Poor vise sits in a box in the attic. Some day I willl try again. Sucker spawn are pretty simple and very effective for steel. Lots of different colors to try. My one fith grader can tie them. he gave me a few last year and they look great.

    In the fly tying forum you can find tutorials for many various patterns by some very talented tiers on the FishUSA forum.

    These tutorials offer step by step instruction with visual aids, some of the bet stuff on this site.....enjoy
