Yesterday the message said it was closed but it was open. I left the boat at home and headed to the spillway but did not find out the boat launch was open until I got to Goodman's. Caught 3 smallies at the spillway and 5 or 6 smaller crappie.

    Mr Crappy
I have not fished Crooked Creek in the fall.  I've always fished it in the spring up to Memorial Day.  Do you use same tactics / location in the fall as you do in the spring when targeting crappies??

Now that I fish mostly from shore,I do use the same tactics but move around more as they don't seem to bunch up as much or stay stationary, unless you can find a brush pile or other structure. I still use bobber & jig most of the time because that is the way I like to fish the most.I personaly get more numbers in the spring ,but you get more solitude this time of year & generaly heavier fish.I was surprised earlier this week to find a 1" long crappie washed up.Must have been a 2nd, late spawn. This was at a lake closer to home. sam

I fished Crooked Creek for the first time yesterday and had a blast. We fished minnows under a float for crappie and did very well. My first cast hooked a 13in. large mouth before I had done any more than put the rod down and reach for my other one. Many of the fish were smallish but there were plenty of big ones to put on the stringer.

It was a beautiful day and I was hoping to come home with about 20 or so fish for a big family fish fry, but my friend got a call form home, and was told by his wife that the gas tank of their truck actually dropped out from under the vehicle while she was driving down the road. No one was hurt, but needless to say that cut short our day. So I ended up coming home with about a dozen nice Crappie as well as a few Bluegills and one nice Perch.

It was a great day while it lasted and in the words of Arnold “I’ll be back.”
