One Fly Games

this year we will be having three casting games.
all games will be using a fly rod and reel.
the first is the accuracy competition as last year.
the second will be the speed competition as last year.
the rules for these games will be the same as last year.
the third game will be distance casting.
The rules would be....
- 3 tries
- no touching the lawn on the backcast
- floating lines only
- no weighted flies or shot.... just a piece of yarn or a dry fly with the hook point removed
- cast is measured where the fly lands
Distance casting; a rod, reel and fly will be provided

Please bring a fly to use in a bright or white in color so it is more visible.

Brandon has one tied on a 3/0 treble! You don't cast it so much as you whirl it around your head like a hammer throw!

DT just a thought here to make the distance casting game absolutely fair.

Would you or someone be willing to donate one rod for that contest. That way its up to the contestant to get the distance in their cast. Not someone who has a better set up for that game.

The other games is about how comfortable you are with your rod and reel. In the distance one , Someone may not have a good set up for the long cast.

If Im stepping on your toes here just tell me.

deetz, the game was drawn up by thedrake and he is going to supply the nice prizes. we discussed this with jack and it was a go. i know this is for experience casters but it will be fun to watch.
if anyone is willing to supply nice prizes to a new game for the one fly i'm all ears!
thedrake has been very busy so i havn't been able to get a hold of him. i think we decided a 9 1/2 foot rod may be the max length. i'll get back on this.

i put this out here so those who want to participate can practice with a rod and set up they are comfortable with.   ~DT

DT, I don't think deetz meant anything about the prizes, more so have one rod that everyone uses for the distance contest so everyone is on the same level. A 9 weight fast action will cast the furthest, so why not just designate a single rod that everyone will use. Hope this clears it up some.

I'm leaning toward maybe having the same rod for everyone to cast. I'll supply the rod/reel/line for the game.

I've got some pretty sweet prizes for the winner, too. I won't announce what the prizes are right now since they aren't actually on market yet, but will be by the onefly.

ok. i got to talk to thedrake. he will be supplying a cortland 'big sky' 9' fly rod, reel and a new long distance line for all to use in the distance contest. this should make it fair to test one's ability.
i guess we can start practicing double hauls to get ready for the contest!
