Galvan Reels

Looking to get a new Fly Reel for a rod I'm going to try and build for Steelhead.

Anyone own or have used any of the Galvan reels ???

Good, bad, worth the money ??

More interested in the drag working properly than anything else..

Thanks

Galvan...bauer...or nautilus you can't go wrong.

Add to that Sage, Loop, Lamson...once you get to that level its harder to miss than to find a good one. :)

I looked at the Sages and was a little concerned about the open gear in the middle.
My reel usually ends up in the drink a time or two and was worried about getting sand or gravel in it..

    Thanks, guys....

My loop's "guts" are all internal. No gears at all in the construction, and no place for sand to get in. If you can pick one up used or on a discount, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I prefer Ross and Lamson and I haven't dunked my rod (easy fellas) since I spent $4 on a pair of plastic hooks that I attached to my vest. Just string the rod across my chest and both hands are free and the fly-rod never touches the water or ground.

Riverbum that would not work for me, as a member of the Uber-Fly-Snob-Goon and Thug Assc. we are required to lay our rods in the water and sand and grit for photos.

Sounds like it would be nice for in the river.

Dam, just missed out on a beautiful Galvan OB 6 for $150 on Ebay.

The reason for UFA members permitting their equipment, in this case, reels, to become soiled, is in order to seem to connect with the "common" angler for which filth is a daily occurance.

Not being the accomplished photographer you are Bings, I like to kneel in the water with my fly rod strapped across my chest and hold my trophy with both hands while my fellow snob fly fisher takes the Titan shot on my behalf.

Why would we ever consider "connecting" with the common angler? We do that enough when they cram up next to us on the creek and then toss their softball size floats over our fly-line.
