When they're hungry it doesn't matter as much, if they're finicky you'll need emeralds to do well. I have had luck in the past using goldens along with a piece of a green twister tail...

Bulldog is right. Emeralds are the best option. Goldens produce mixed results(usually not as good) from my experience. Goldens are OK sometimes and other times they dont work. If theyre really hitting it doesnt matter.

Should I use a pinner? Or just drift it with a 6 weight and tell people that I am fly fishing?

caught alot of limits on fatheads this time of year. not the preference but if that school is hungry, they'll eat 'em up. now correct me if I'm wrong here. Isn't the reason for the lack of emeralds this time of year  because they're too far out and deep and difficult to net? so it stands to reason that if the perch are schooled in 50 to 60 feet of water with no emeralds, they'll eat what's offered. yeah or nay?

    Im callin nay

Seems to me that the perch key on certain baitfish like "the emerald shinner' only. Have not had any luck with fatheads and limited to decent success with goldens. However how many of yinz have brought in perch from the depths and they regurgitate up the zebra muscles. I have put the bigger chunks of a zebra muscle on the hook and it was like a frenzy. caught them like crazy.

All kidding aside...I've never seen those perch regergitate as much mussels as they have this year. I bet you could get pretty creative with bait selections for them things acquired from close to home....

    -cut up pieces of shrimp
    -cut squid
    -fatheads

Anyone ever try squid? I bet they would stay on your hook longer too?
