Ohio river fish

Have been exceptionally fortunate in recent trips down the Ohio around Beaver. I've caught several walleye and crappie--released them all. My question--would you consider eating any fish from this part of the river? Thanks

i will keep some but i usually keep the ones from 15 to about 19 from the ohio.  the guidelines give you one meal a month but i know plenty ppl that keep them and eat alot more than that and they are fine.  i am not saying there is nothing wrong with them but erie has the same guideline

the last big eye I caught on the ohio was slow to recover and took a while to revive, I was asking myself the same thing but I planned to keep it if it didnt swim away...the rivers are a lot cleaner than most think

The moment of truth. Where all other things unconsciously melt away from our minds the instant a fish takes our fly. We stand there on the water with wide eyes, caught in a battle stance with an idea of confidence and hope

In that pool the restrictions are the same as the walleye meca lake Erie (PA) down past Montgomery dam they are less stringent. Personally I have never kept an eye or sauger, it's funny what the old memories won't let u do, even what the scientists say.

Over the past 20 years I have eaten many walleyes from the Ohio, Allegheny, Mon and Yough rivers in and around the Pgh area.

25+ years ago game fish such as walleye, musky, bass, etc, didn't exist like they do today in these rivers with the exception of the Yough.  The Mills and factories polluted the rivers to where the river water was brownish-orange or a rust color.  All you caught back then where cats and carp.

Today the rivers are much cleaner and can support a game fish population.

Hey, if it doesn't have 3 eyes, 7 dorsal fins and glows in the dark.......I'm eating it.  Enjoy!
