I am really surprised to hear that Kip believes that he is a 4.5YO.  I was leaning toward 3.5YO, but felt he quite possibly could have been 2.5YO.

The buck I killed last year was aged by my taxi (I know it is not official) and he believed that it was a 4.5YO.  That buck also weighed over 160# dressed and had a smidgen over 5" of mass on his bases.  Rest assured, the buck pictured in this thread is no where close to either of those stats.

If you would have removed the antlers, I'da guessed 2.  Antlers only, 3.   Only deer I feel comfortable aging is the deer I hunt and that comes from seeing them dead and looking at teeth.  2 or 3 are still a crap shoot at best and seem to be the most debateable.  4 is easier while a yearling is a definite.   Older than 4 is a guess.  It just becomes "old" at that point.

I have a pic of a deer that I'll post in a few days just antlers and then body.

How about you shoot him then you'll know.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

+1- too many variables in genetics, feed , etc. I feel the same way about antler scoring. Unless they are lying dead and you have a tape measure and score sheet in front of you it is nothing more than a guess.

nice deer....the pics that show 2006 for the date are current (and wrong date programmed into camera) or are they old?

Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

If you read the original post you would see where I stated:

"Don't mind the date on the original Cudde as I have been experiencing some technical difficulties with setting the time/date on it"

That camera has turned into a big POS basically.  It freezes constantly and it will not allow me to set the time/date anymore.  Besides I don't think you will see many bucks in January that are still in velvet, or bucks with that kind of antler development in May
