Cross or Crooked?

I'm hoping to get out next week and do a little Crappie & Panfish fishing. (I want to do a fish fry) I would like to fish a lake that I have not fished yet, just to get to know a few more places to fish.

I was thinking about hitting either Cross Creek or Crooked Creek Lake. I will be fishing out of a 12 foot boat with a little 2hp on it. Any suggestions or opinions as to which lake is going be more productive? And any tips on either lake for connecting with Crappie this time of year?

    I only tried Crooked Creek once, and I know a couple of posters on here are much more familiar, hopefully they'll answer also... it has some nice coves but unless you are going during the week and probably early in the morning the pleasure boaters are a PITA for someone trying to fish. (we made the mistake of visiting on a weekend day) It is an unlimited HP lake so the water skiers and such are racing around all day and their wakes make it miserable. It is on our list for a revisit, but only on a weekday... we did catch some cats upstream of where the boat launch is, parked in about 6 ft of water over a flat.

    A problem with any resivoir is that after a rain like we had recently could raise the water level & muddy up the lake with debris floating a problem also. You should also call thier office just to be sure if you can launch or if the road is closed. Also FYI, Cross Creek requires a launching permit from Wash. Cnty. if I am not mistaken. Right now according to the resivoir report Crooked Creek is about 4-5' high. if it gets 10' high they close the beach road & the launch also.Also be aware that Cross Creek is a special reg.s lake for Bass & panfish. sam
