conversion

Anyone know how to convert the Loran nubers to GPS coordinates and visa versa?

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

    Decimal value = Degrees + (Minutes/60) + (Seconds/3600)

    A latitude of 122 degrees 45 minutes North is equal to 122.75 degrees North
    A latitude of 122 degrees 45 minutes 45 seconds North is equal to 122.7625 degrees North

    Not sure what you mean. We were fishing around 58450, 28880 (first trench) over the weekend. how do I convert that to GPS coordinates?

    Go back to the same spot and check your GPS...

    Didn't know the Loran system was still working. Only thing I can find is this www.andren.com

    +1 for bulldogs suggestion.

    I thought you were just trying to get lat/long --> decimal degrees for GPS input.

    I found this - http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=loranConvert

    installed the 'POSAID2' program, plugged your #'s in, checked it on the map & came up in the lake....
    took a little messing around to get it to work out - it's a DOS program....

    Still a lot of guys using charts with Loran numbers out there, not to mention the guys referring to their Loran "lines". Here's some info for you:

    Thanks. I was on a buddy's boat. We only had a map with the loran numbers on it and were trying to find the corolation between the two.

    Buy a hand held GPS, when your sinking and you tell me LORAN numbers thats not going to help me find you, safety first on the big pond don't go out without a GPS.

    if you healthy and run fast then you get good point down to up and up to down.
