Glade Run Lake, located in Butler County, was recently drained due to problems with the dam. Glade Run Lake is a tremendous resource to Western Pennsylvania and we urge you to support its’ repair. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s 2010 Fact Sheet states: “Glade Run is visited more than16,000 times a year and the resulting fishing and boating economic impact is estimated to be $1.2 million annually.” The estimated cost to repair the dam is $4.2 million dollars. Repairing the dam will pay for itself in less than 4 years.

Glade Run Lake provides numerous benefits to the community. The Fire Department and other emergency personnel use the lake for training and as a water source. Fishing and boating are very important to our residents (Butler County ranks 11th out of 67 counties listed for the number Boat Registrations in Pennsylvania annually). Hunting of deer, ducks and geese are popular sports supported by the lake. Wildlife is plentiful with nesting Ospreys and huge fresh water mussels. Bald Eagles and Loons are not uncommon.

The refurbishment of the Glade Run Lake Dam is clearly supported by the residents of our county. Fish and Boat Commission studies show “The public continues to identify a need for… aquatic resources.” and support the need to “Retain and add new access to fishing and boating opportunities.”

Many people have introduced our children, nieces, nephews and others to our natural heritage along the shores of Glade Run Lake. The loss of Glade Run Lake will invariably harm not only those who enjoy the resources of our State today but will also detract from the development of our children. We have a duty to future generations to maintain our traditions of hunting and fishing and we must maintain the resources that allow this.

Please do all you can to support the rebirth of Glade Run Lake.

Thank you,

David and Nancy Fowler

Just visited the lake for the first time since it was drained. Depressig to say the least. Grew up as a kid with my father going to this lake. A lot of good memories were made here. Hope it can be restored to its origional state. I also have pics if anyone is interested in seeing its current state.

i wonder why the fish comm cant just make an optional stamp kinda like the erie stamp and just have the procedes from that stamp go towards the repair of all these so call high hazard dams.

Caught my very first fish there.  A bluegill, caught a few more along with a bass that day, that was about 23-24 years ago.  I remember it like it was yesterday.

Because the PF&BC does not have the authority to do so. It has to been done by the legislature.

sad to say the least...amazing how fast the grass grows back and the small amount of structure (unless any of it was removed so far). First place i ever launched a boat, made yearly trips here for opening day with my now deceased good friend, childhood memories with my father. such a quiet peaceful lake now reduced to nothing. I understand the safety reasons for doing so, but it still sux to see this everytime. only place holding any water is the creek bed and a stagnant pool of nasty water behind the dam...amazing how clean this lake was...walking sround the lake bed i saw almost no trash or garbage. Unlike north park which was disgusting to say the least...

I heard the fish commission left behind all the junk fish to die. Many residents were complaining about the smell. Makes one wonder about our fish and game agencies sometimes.

Used to drive all the way from Penn Hills to fish Glade Run when I was in High School. That was before they created lake Arthur, so we thought Glade Run was as good as it got. Will definitely miss the lake. The dam isn't really that old. It wasn't constructed as a temporary water source for mine or Coke plant so it makes you wonder if somebody didn't cut some corners in the original construction.

Good luck, but I think that you will be wasting your time ... unfortunately. Same thing happed at Dutch Fork Lake about 6-5 years ago. They claim no money and from the looks of it, nothing will ever be done with it. It used to be a great bass lake, now just a field of high grass with a stream running thru.
