2 years of tryin pays off

Since I turned into a fly snob 2 years ago... I've caught plenty o fish on my flyrod . But I've had a bucket list of fish to stick. Besides the easy ones, I've managed some northern and a bowfin. Today I knocked another one down. After hundreds of "nothing but air" hooksets, dozens of one second fights, and two years of tryin'...I stuck that brotherflucker topwater.

I got the "take" on a fish I could see and targeted. I got the solid hookset and headshake. I got the run....the dig....and two big taildances...everything I hoped it would be.

Half the battle happened after the net....I was by myself and my pic sux....but it was two years in the making...and I'm thrilled.

For the snobs.....

Just for fun....I named my canoe

Thanks.....They are absolutely hammerin' topwater fly's....the take aint the problem...the hookset is.....

    and yes....I tried rope....

I'm an outside the box thinker. My next gar fly will be a single hook rope popper with a treble trailer.....it's gonna be deadly I might even put bait oNiT

CRAP!!!!....can I still be a snob if my flies have treble hooks?

ps....they taste way better than most fish. The bones were tricky but worth it.

Peppers, onions, gar.....felt like I was on swamp people.

    Delicious!

That's sweet. I've never ever seen one of those. Let alone catch one on a fly, on top.

    For the snobs.....

You will never be a true fly fishing snob until you learn to mention the fact that other fisherman dared to be on the same water as you and (GHAST!) used bait in your presence.  Until the fact that other fisherman use different techniques truly disgusts you to the core, you will never be a true fly fishing snob.

Luckily for you there are more than a few of those types here for you to learn from.  Perhaps if you made the same post as you did above and remembered to mention that there were indeed low-life bait fishermen on the water with you it would make your fly fishing efforts seem all the more snobby and heroic.  Be sure to throw in some comments about power bait and littering, because all bait fisherman and non fly fishermen litter and use power bait.

Hope this helps in your quest to be an uber-**** fly guy like some on this site...

    Cool fish, Slick. Congrats.
