Utilizing a 9.9 kicker ? Setup

We have a 150hp merc and a 9.9 kicker. Was planning to use the 9.9 for trolling purposes on erie or for HP restricted lakes. The 150 is the main motor and is obviously controlled by the steering wheel. We want the 9.9 to also be controlled by the wheel. What are our options for making this happen or at least having control of the 9.9 without having to do everything by hand?

    Hi Bob,
Have a look at this product.  It may be what you're looking for.  As far as the throttle setting goes, you may have to do that manually unless you want to add a control set for that near the helm.

Congrats on the new boat and good luck!

Your options would be to utilize a tie-bar system connecting the two engines, or buy a secondary hydrualic actuator. I believe Panther systems offers a hydraulic steering system for auxiliary motors, but it will set you back probably $300-400 bucks.

The tie-bar option will certainly be the cheaper of the two, probably only cost your around $40-50 bucks. You can connect the motors together from the front or like the product described above you can connect the motors from the back.

I've included an overhead picture of my two motors-like you I have a 150 Merc and a 9.9. Prokicker. I have no remote throttle, so I have to adujust the speed on my kicker by hand on the tiller. I choose to fabricate a bracket on my 9.9., since there wasn't a good place to clamp the rod end to my kicker.

Lovgren, get yourself a troll master to control your kicker throttle. You won't regret it if you're using that for trolling. I know I sure don't miss trying to dial the speed in from the tiller...

I have used both tie bar systems and for tying two outboards together I prefer the system in the front, like Lovgren's pics. They cost more than they should, but they work well and it's quick and easy to disconnect the two motors if you want. For the IO, you're pretty much stuck with the EZ Steer, but they work very well...

Be extra good and maybe Santa will bring you a TR-1. Of course that would mean more trips to the lake to justify the ownership of it though...what a quandry.

I own the tie bar by panther marine...like lovgren uses. tighten it up good and you wont have any problems and you can pop that bar off anytime you want to if you arent using it or whatever. I use the tiller handle to adjust my throttle but im gonna eventually get the digital throttle control. I get sick of people messing with the throttle while im not looking thinking that we need to be going slower or faster and when i check the down speed probe or gps speed and it is way off and the culprit is sitting next to the handle i know what happend. I can tighten the throttle inplace on my tohatsu and it doesnt move unless moved by a person.
