Cross Creek Lake

Has anyone fished Cross Creek Lake lately? I am hoping to take my 5 year old out Saturday or Sunday morning and thought we might try our luck there. I haven't ever fished it but it looks like there is some decent shore access, at least near the main parking lot.

I was there last saturday caught a bunch of crappie and smaller bass. We were out on a boat though. They do have some decent shore fishing and if it's crowded a short walk can get you away from any crowd that may be there.

Thanks knfanning. Is there just one parking area or are there multiple access points?

Sorry I was up at Pyma the last few days. There's just one parking area but there's probably about a mile or so of shoreline that's accessible from there by foot.

Thanks knfanning. I took my son out on Saturdy. We fished a couple of hours in the morning but didn't catch anything. The water is down a bit and there is about 15-20 feet of weeds along the shoreline that made it tough for a kid. But the playground made up for the fish not biting. Hopefully we have better luck at the Yough dam in a couple of weeks when we go on vacation.

    That is not correct.

    burghwolf -

There is a trail that parallels the shore to the 'left' of the picnic area, if you are viewing it from the parking lots. There are several spots that be accessed from that trail, albeit via fairly steep hillside. If you follow it far enough you will come to little inlet/cove that has a cleared area. That area usually doesn't have many people, but has some fish. In early summer, I've caught many hand-sized bluegill there. If you go even further, you will come to a very shallow part of the lake which can have some bass, at least before the water gets too warm.

If you've already discovered this for yourself, then please ignore this post.

I've often wondered if there are other shore areas at Cross Creek that I should be trying to access.

If you're gonna point out a mistake with my post then say what it is and don't just say it's not correct. The area that's accessible from the boat launch area is estimated at 1 mile or so of shoreline might be a bit more but definitely not more than 2. If you are talking about parking areas then you have the main parking area with the boat launch. Looking at a map of the park there's really one other spot I can see without going for a hike and that end of the lake is pretty swampy. I'n not saying there isn't more spots but I imagine it's a park and long walk to access them.

My son and I went for a walk on the trail to the left of the boat launch. We went almost as far as the cove where the path makes a sharp turn to the right but we didn't even take our rods. We did go and find another shore access area but I forget the name of the road. It is gated at the top of the hill and you have to walk in but there isn't much room at the bottom. I think this might be a lake that has to wait until he is old enough to use a float tube with me.

Thanks for all the replies everyone
