suckers...

just my opinion; i didnt see the rest of the thread; but IMO i believe the guy was actually being serious in catching suckers on FLIES. i did see two serious responses; like i said though, i dont know how it ended... i'll leave it at that

btw... to the original poster; i bet a brassy (caddis shuck) wrapped with copper wire would work if presented properly in front of a sucker on his feeding flat; as well as the san juan worm as mentioned by another gentleman previously. i do believe the san juan worm should be tied with a softer chenille ratrher than stiff though. good luck...

What happened to the other thread on suckers?

The poster formally known as Duncsdad

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

I do know a little about this topic. Afterall, I did manage to fool this beauty on a fly:

In all honesty, around here, the best way to catch suckers is to dredge the bottom with the same nymphs and same setup you'd use for trout. They have the same diet as trout.

Yup, a good looking nymph will get them, especially buggy nymphs. I actually made a huge streamer to imitate suckers...I use it for Musky and Pike.

My thread got moved to the fisherie board, thanks for the serious responses. I am serious about catching a doz or so for flathead bait their only bout a foot long tops not sure what species of sucker they are but their mouths have to be tiny. Like too small for a piece of crawler tiny. I have a small assortment of flies I use occasionally for gills and for float/fly for steelhead. I've put some of the smaller ones in my box for the next time I get to that spot. Again, thanks a bunch. I know its laughable to some of u guys to Target such a lowly fish but hey, its just bait to me. I usually target panfish for the same purpose.

Luvin you should take that bad boy down to the river when waters between 60 and 70 deg. You'd be the first guy I've heard of to catch a big flathead on the fly.

The suckers scattered from where they were schooled up the last time I was at this spot. I couldn't keep anything away from the panfish. Thanks again for the info guys ill keep trying.
