Conemaugh River

Looking to fish the Conemaugh River this Saturday, 7/16/11. Wanted to get in the river and walk upstream a mile or so and fish for smallmouth. I'm not real familiar with it, so any info would be appreciated. (Best place to park, get in and walk, lures, etc.) Or is this a waste of my time? Thanks in advance...

I used to live in Saltsburg. There is parking in town and I have heard of lots of fish in and around the bridge and mouth of Loyalhanna, but as for anywhere else there is not alot of access unless you've got a lifted 4x4. anywhere else there is access the river isn't able to be waded. until you get to the dam then it's still limited.

    Vatter is right,

shore access if very limited to the river.

PM sent on an area that might be productive for you though.

You could very end up chin deep in gun-toting rednecks in that area.

Funny you mention that. Last time I was at the spillway, a few "upstanding citizens" were bumming around the parking lot.

There are some people around there who think they own the lake and no one else should be fishing there. They go up and down the lake with a medium size boat and big motor. The lake is supposed to be electric only or 10 hp max depending on where you look.

Which parking lot? Although I haven't heard of any probs at the one under the bridge,I would be very cautious at the spot where they moved the gate to, because of it being pretty secluded.About all you can do is use common sense & don't leave anything in plain sight in your vehical.I do know of break-ins occuring in the Game lands lots accross the Auen Road. Also ,when the testosterone level rises in some of the low lifes around, they occasionaly tear up the grass by 4 wheeling, then, trash the rest rooms. But that prob. is by no means limited to that area. sam

I always do good for smallies at the outflow as for fishing at night, haven't gotten brave enough to yet.  But I do have a drop net to retreive anything if I fish from above at the wall...  Lost 3 smaller pike there aswell and done ok down at the tunnelton canoe launch hooked into something that I only saw about the back 18" of and it bent the shank on a #3 mepps spinner so theres some big fish in there haha...  Also fishing is good down at the bridge they just built, well I haven't fished there since they opened it but a few people I talked to have said that sometimes the people from the bar get rowdy but aside from that I'm not sure.

i have done ok on small channel cats at night. Nothing real big, but decent enough numbers. Caught a monster 12" flathead on a nightcrawler one time. That baby put up a heck of fight on a catfishing rig. haha
