Repost-Shallow water bite

I posted this in the boating forum, but I'm reposting it here to see if I can get any additional feedback from the fisherman out there!

I've been feeling the itch to make my first trip of the year to Lake Erie to chase some early season walleyes. Just curious if any of you boat guys have gotten out to the lake yet? It's probably still a touch early with the wet and cool spring weather, but this recent warm spell should be pushing things in the right direction.

I know that I fished the Lake last year the entire week of July 4th last year and did alright on the eyes in shallow. Biggest problem was sorting through all the darn sheepshead just to get a limit or two of walleyes.

I will tenatively be making a trip Friday June 24th to scout around and wet some lines, so if anyone might be interested in accompaning me please PM me...I have at least 1 or 2 open seats on my boat right now that I'm looking to fill.

Thanks...Matt

How much info do you need?

Any info is good...I'm not asking to be spoonfed nor expect people to divulge specific info. I have a pretty good idea of the different techniques & programs for the different times of the year. Just like to get a gauge on what the conditions have been like.

I have to to at least justify the costs to trailer a boat 250 miles roundtrip and all my other adddtional costs, so certainly it is not insignificant...That and I was extending an invite for others to have a chance to fish aboard my boat

seriously, just come to erie, stop at poor richards, ask where "they" are catching walleye...
    go there...

    Tried that once...
    NO MORE!
All that was said was a smart-axx answer.

I'm sure they get tired of giving "advice".

Believe me, Lovegrn doesn't need any of your spots. I have met him one time and he has been posting on here since 2003, he knows how to fish.

3 in the box in a few hours fishing by myself late this afternoon. I lost 4 at the boat trying to net them by myself including one pig. East of Shades in 52 fow then 44 fow just west of the NY line around 8 pm. 800 reefs 50-140' back and Chattersticks off 3 colors LC all off inlines. The pig that was lost hit the chatterstick. My guess is that it would've been a field day with 6 or 8 lines in the water instead of 2...a net man would have helped too. Most marks were high in the water column.

Funny how poor richards digs for information when you are there and want to know where you are catchin fish, but when the shoe is on the other foot you get crap for answers.

I haven't fished this year, boat still not done. But the boys are telling me same shallow program, average catch 6-8 fish a day but a couple boats with 3 and 4 tickets. So with that said the potential is there to start whacking them if you tune in to what they want. I hope to have the boat done for a 10 day stretch starting the July 4th weekend. Good Luck!

Split shot I have sent you a pm if u wanna chat near shore eyes. I did 75 % of my eye damage last year near shore west. I know I'm not hammering ten pounders all day, but a lot of 3-6 lbers anyway. I didn't have to worry so much about the off shore blow in the ditch. Took advantage of a lot of south wind days. That was nice!

I don't mind sharing what I have learned. Besides there are only 25 million walleye in lake Erie.
That's what this web site is for right? I have been reading a lot on ohio game fishing .com those guys really help each other out. They put you right on them with the tactics as well.

Thanks! Dreamn, I have fished shallow water eyes for years east of Presque Isle. What I enjoy most (if there is a nice chop) drifting with bait walker sinkers and worm harness's and catch some of those resident eyes. Nice to have a rod in hand. Of course, when the water warms up we go out deep and troll. (TALK ABOUT SHALLOW EYES) I had my neighbor kid out about 10 yrs. ago in July. The lake was rough so we stayed close to shore. We were drift fish'n in front of the hammermill and he caught a Big walleye in 10 ft. of water. In July!!! it had a tag in it's mouth from Dunkirk N.Y. I called and gave them the info. They appreciated it.
