atlantics

Hey guys; since there was some recent talk about atlantics; I just saw a picture my brother sent of an estimated 8-9 lb atlantic that was caught in dsr recently. I don't do the facebook thing but there is a pic of it on douglastons face book page. Its abeautiful hearty silverfish with magnificent markings... check it out

The pic im speaking of is on douglaston salmon runs facebook page; I don't want to brake any copyright boundries if you know what I mean :) if you'd like though my father caught a wild 19 poundfemale 4 years ago in the restigouche in the month of june; fresh silver as cold as the ocean blue... give me a day or two and I will post it. Theycaught a 35# 2 years ago at this same camp.... for me; i cant seem to squeeze in the salmon trips to quebec since i have four mouths to feed:) oneday though.... tight lines

I guess this is a hijack of sorts to the thread but pictures of fresh fish and the great outdoors is the point I'm trying to get across..
In all the years fishing & guiding on the SR I can count on 1 hand the number of photo worthy Atlantics that were caught in my presence.. Don't know about you folks.. Sadly however I can not find any pictures of those fish at this time.. I know I have them somewhere.. So with all the hits / views to this thread is is not surprising to me that nobody has put up any photos of river run atlantics either..

Pictures to me are worth sharing and in some way make living through a lens what its all about..Don't know why we are not seing more beautiful New York photos..

So here is my recent outing:
BTW: I camped on a landlock salmon pond (lake by flatlanders perspective) and did not get the chance to give them a go.. Brookies was the quarry :)

Yes I fish & get outdoors often , do you ?

Another dinner from the lay of the land:

    say what?

I've seen, caught, and ate Conk from the ocean,

that thing looks like a space creature -
or a pizza laden with Bear turds.. :)

Can you describe this thing further? Where when it grows?
Is it some kind of shroom?

    Thanks.

A conk is a fibrous but sometimes fleshy fruiting body of a wood-rotting fungus that has a definite form and structure.

You see them all the time I'm sure.. Lots of people make artistic paintings or wood burnings on them.. Yea they are usually growing off the sides of trees or down rotten wood as is this case. Just thought the coloring of this one was pretty neat...

Conk is very tasty but has the consistency of eating a large rubber band.
Went up Tues night and did yard work all Wed- --nice day for a change up there- first fully sunny day I have been there yet this spring. Not one gobble in the AM. Did see a couple of Atlantics by the wire in upper fly zone when I took a late evening  walk ( not fishing) Rained about midnight..
Thurs did yard work all AM intending to fish all pm. No gobbles then either-About noon Pulaski did its thing. Thunder, Lightning, VERY hard rain and quarter inch hail- whoopee- almost forgot where I was on Wed.
Went out anyhow around the deep runs in the bovines and the river was coming up just a bit and turning muddy- nothing. Barometric must have been going nuts. Not even a chub.
After raining most of the night ( of course, was done with yard stuff and wanted to fish) I packed it in and came home today Fri.
Was nice to see the Atlantics and will try for them another trip.

Good luck Dime- will be about 3 more weeks for me. That will mean about 3 hours of lawn cutting day one  and at least one more with the weed eater where the rocks live.
Tried Conk salad-got so tired chewing that conk  wasnt good for anything else.
Hey- one of those Atlantics up in that wire pool was in the 9 to  10 lb class.
