high water catfishin

Any tips on targeting flatheads in this high water I've only been to the river once so far this year and got the skunk. But the temp was bout 53 deg. Little chilly.

Same as most any fish in high water, look for current breaks and seams. If you can find an area that has slower water then chuck your bait right on the seam. They will sit in the pocket and wait for something to wash out into the slower pool. Basically, your going to look for structure and fish right on the downstream side of it. As the water clears, look for creek mouths where the water flowing into the river is clearer than the river water. Flats will lay in the muddy water and wait to ambush fish washing out of the creeks. Usually high water actually means better fishing when it comes to flats, it just takes more lead and a little bit different locations than normal.

The bite has been on the last 2 weeks or so. ANY slack water has been producing. Most of the time if the water was slow enough to hold anchor, the fish were there. All 3 rivers have been producing, the Allegheny was moving extremely fast and fishing has been hard from a boat just for the simple fact that finding an out of the current spot has been so tricky. Get it while it lasts, the spawn will be on in about 2-3 weeks, depending on what river. The Mon and Ohio should be spawing in about 2, the Allegheny will be a week or so behind.
