Gr8 weekend, despite the weather
I took my kids to Kosser state park this weekend. I also met up with a board member (Flyingmoles) in the Donegal area on Saturday morning and had a great time fishing some native/wild trout streams with him. I was on a quest for a wild brown, but unfortunatley that did not happen (still had a blast). We did get into some very nice native brookies though, very pretty fish. It was just nice to meet someone face to face after talking on line over the winter months. The streams were some of the prettiest I've ever seen as well. Thanks Flyingmoles !!!!!! I also fished Kosser Run behind our cabin and caught some fish there as well, I got my 1st Pali of the year and wrangled up my first ever Tiger trout too. I also took the kids to the trout farm and watched them have a blast there. The money adds up quick there, but what the heck ! As long as my kids had fun, I love seeing the excitement in their eyes every single time they hook into a fish. If you have never been to that area, it is very nice. Kooser and Laurell Hill State parks are very nice and the surrounding fishing is pretty good as well. Pics to come ! jeb

Nice. I stumbled across Kooser a few weeks ago. Looked really nice. To bad I didn't have a rod with me at the time.

ORIGINAL: TastyTrout Nice. I stumbled across Kooser a few weeks ago. Looked really nice. To bad I didn't have a rod with me at the time. Kooser is a nice lake, but really, really weedy this time of the year. best (I've heard) time is in April, after that very hard to fish ( I found that out). I tried to fish pockets inbetween the weeds, but it was hard. Also, bottom fishing is almost impossible with the weeds now. Laurel Hill Lake looked much better, but it rained the day we wanted to fish it. Headed to the trout farm with the kids inbetween rain storms. Definately going to try Laurel Hill Lake next year when we go. Pics of the kids at the trout farm to come, as soon as I download them off of the digital.

Nice fish Jeb. I caught a trout the other day that was unlike any other one I caught. Had real orange gills and a line going down the middle of it. Almost looked like a rainbow with messed up colors. I have a pic but I've never posted one to the boards before. Maybe it's time I learn.

absolutely that has Cut-throat Genes, Note the bright red splotch on its gill and the red line on its lateral line. Typical cutthroat, .. But then, There is a good bit of rainbow trout, too. the wikipedia article I saw said they can hybridize- forming a "cutbow" (kind of like tiger trout). I'm SURE thats what you have. wow. what a unique fish. There isn't cut-throat trout within 2000miles. apparently someone botched the spawn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cutthroat_Trout.JPG][/

I have caught two Cutbows in Pa waters, the state (even thought they will deny it) has put them in before in small batches. I caught one similar to that last year on Montour Run, but it was just a weird rainbow. But I have definatley caught two. Cool looking fish !

Very cool and unique fish to catch. I feel lucky being that I caught it a paper balls throw away from where 20-30 people fish daily during trout season....and I caught it almost 2 full weeks after the last stocking.
