Allegheny Panfish

Is there such thing as crappy, bluegill, perch in the Allegheny?  I've never ran into any, nor heard anyone talk about it.

I caught a crappie on the Allegheny around Freeport. They are there in scattered pockets I think, especially slow water areas.

Thats how they are in the Ohio. I'm assuming the same is true for the lower Allegheny.

They are there and they can be big.  Finding slack water (as already mentioned) and timing it right are the keys to success.

These spots are limited and therefore people are tight lipped about them.  I wouldn't expect anyone to hold your hand and take you to them.

Agreed. I've caught both gills and crappies in the lower Allegheny. I will say I find my crappies near Freeport and further north.

The Allegheny has some great perch fishing if you know where and how to get them. Last year we got perch up to 14" and crappie up to 15". That was all winter fishing. Crappie fishing is decent in the spring but the perch seem to dissapear in late spring until late fall, for me at least.
