Good luck guys.

Hope you get a bunch of guys that are interested in having a good association and will work to develop it and have enough support to have some good fund raisers.

Again  best of luck.

well this is all in the planning stages, brainstorming mostly. some ideas about having a poker night at a local fire hall, and selling t shirts similar to the "Stock the Yough" Pins sold at local baitshops. but since we are a smaller club we have a certain percentage of active members that help with work details and attend meetings and a higher percentage that simply pay their dues to use the boat launch.

YSPA is located in Coulter PA.  We have a picnic area and launch ramp.
Dues are only $25 a year and $1 for a key to the gate.  Meetings are held the last Wednesday of the month @ 7:00 PM.

Membership is open to everyone.  You must show up in person because no keys will be mailed.  We would like to get some more young people involved so if you have kids bring them along and get them started fishing.

fishnabarrel, I am one of those members that simply paid their dues in order to use the launch. I would be interested in a poker night, just let me know when and where, and I'll be there. I remember seeing a lot of posts on the club's website about weed wacking the hills on both sides of the ramp and am definately going to try and help out with that this year.

I haven't joined in a couple years.  What do I need to do to pay dues and get a key to the launch?

Dues are $26 with a key, but the March and April meetings were canceled because of the pandemic. I went down last night, but there was no one there at about 5 minutes before start so I left.  Hoping we just mail in the dues and forgo changing the lock this year. I'll post whatever I find out.  (btw, there were 2 boats out, water looked awesome)

Yes, the club is still strong.  It is $26/year with the key (needed to access the parking lot, and launch). Meetings are the last Wednesday of the month and you need to attend one to join. Meetings are at the launch starting at 7pm.
The pavilion is free of charge to all members if you want to have a private gathering. You would just need to reserve it with the club officers and verify it is not already booked.

I have a 14' heavy Starcraft with a 15 hp.  As long as I followed the channel, I could make it from Coulter, all the way down to the confluence in Mckeesport but never much farther up than just past the rapids in Turner Valley.  I was bumping bottom once I got past the rapids up there and just tilted the motor and floated back down.

Definitely some deeper holes in that section and the channel right across from the launch is pretty deep.  Not sure how much you draft with that 18' boat though....
As with everything related to a river, water level means everything...

Got out for the second time this year, finally got off the schneid.  Fished the evening from 7:30 to about 11pm.  One small channel cat and one walleye (maybe a saugeye) about 19" at dusk.

To answer some questions, the pool at Coulter is pretty friendly to bigger boats. There is a distinct channel side with plenty of depth for bigger boats. As eyesandgillz stated, the most you'll make it without a jet or high water is just below the island at the Norwin Soccer Fields in Turner Valley. I've only drifted it a couple times, but I found the section from Boston to  Greenock to be wide and shallow.  I tend to go upstream when I launch and rarely go below the island at Alpsville.

No meeting tonight.  There is a Facebook page, Yough Sports People Association.  There might be better contact information if you are interested in joining the club, but I don't have FB and can't access it.  There is also a web page, yspa.net, that is very dated and not alway up to date.  If you have access to FB, that is the better way to go.

I managed to get out on Wednesday.  The water is low and clear. Caught 2 channel cats.
