how and where to catch steelies in P.I. bay

First, thank you for taking the time to read my post.  Any good advise would be appreciated.
I'm visiting my father April 18-25 and would like to get in some good fishing on P.I. bay.  Where in the bay should I concentrate our efforts to hook some steelies or perch?  Also how are steelies fished in the bay?  Casting or trolling better?  Thanks again for all the help.  I'll report back on how we did.

    Hi Jeff,

Pay no attention to guru there, he is the message board LS student (learning support).  I've never fished that late for steelhead in the bay, but the guy who could give you alot of info on the topic would be Andy Daniels his email is danielsalawa@aol.com I'm sure he could lead you in the right direction.  Good Luck!

I can tell you there are steelhead in the lagoons right now.  I guess with the warmer water in the lagoons the steelies have been drawn to it.  Try throwing spoons or larger spinners, or streamers if you're a fly guy.

    Jeff,

If you drop me an email at JBFuhrmann@aol.com I can point you in the right direction and offer a technique or two. We have been doing well in the bay and the steelhead are there in good numbers and size.

I would'nt say those two spots are the best. more like the most well known.  never even bother to fish at either. Steelhead can be caught in higher numbers elsewhere. and I would'nt even tell my brother about it.

Contact Pete Alex of Vision Quest charters. He will give you the lowdown on trolling the bay for Steel. April is a great month, weather permitting.

Well here's the report on how we did.

The first attempt to get out on the water was a failure because we had a bad boat battery.  Bummer!  We got that taken care of and were able to wet a line on Tuesday 4-24.  Trolling spoons, dad hooked up with a big steel that breached and unfortunately broke the line in front of Dobbins landing.  That was the only Trout bite we got.  All was not a failure though.  We got out the bobbers and headed to the marina where I cought a huge crappie on a minnow.  I think it was a lone ranger though because that was the only one hooked.  The time spent with dad was better than catching all the fish in the bay.  Thank you all for your replies.  I understand that folks don't want to give up their secrets and thats okay with me.  Happy fishing!
