If the lake and water color is nice this weekend I'd bet all my tackle and boat that it will be a slamfest when it comes to smallie fishin.  It's that time of year!

    Ironhead,

We killed the Smallies along the w's, shorewood and shades last year at this time. I remember reading your posts this time last year. I was running a similar program. Boy did the come. It was a blast. We moved rods all day. After the first we also picked up a few eyes for the box too. That was nice.
Any who, do you think the water temps are warm enough yet? I know last years spring was a lot warmer.
If not I may head west for some post spawn eyes as long as the mud has settled.

P.S. I enjoy reading your posts. I few years on the pond, but still learning. Your posts are very informative.

    Thanks

    Thanks eyedreamn!
Yes, I think the water is plenty warm.  One of the best days we ever had(for smallies) was when the water was 42 degrees.
Last year was great early in the season for big fish but once that water warmed, those big girls moved up and it was male after male after male after....
Hopefully we'll be out there this weekend!
    Best of luck this season!

I'm planning to fish the Presque Isle area for Smallmouth 5/9-5/15/11.  We have a 23' Bayliner and have never fished this area before.  Can anyone tell me the best place to launch bayside and lakeside?  Is there anywhere to leave the boat tied up for the night?  Any suggestions on lodging close to the launch sites?  Thanks.

You can tie up in the west slip at Wolverine Marine. Chestnut Street ramp on the bay front you can launch.

I wouldnt launch that big of a boat from chestnut street launch. Might want to consider the Marina boat launch.

I recommend Lampe Marina. You could even camp right next door if you're feeling outdoorsy.
